The driver loft

The different between a 13 degree 45 inches 400CC driver and a 13 degree 3 wood 43 inches. Also a 8.5 degree 45 inches 400CC driver.
Talking about carry only and not counting the roll.

Which one should got furthest and which one would go shortest??

Well that just depends on how you swing. That really is a personal question...go get on a launch monitor if you can, or do some experimenting.

Basically the 3-wood will hit a little shorter because of the shorter shaft and different CG than the 13-degree, 400cc driver. 3 woods are meant to launch a little differently than drivers I'd guess.

Basically you just have to do some testing man.

Would you believe that for some/most people who is using a 8.5 degree driver will have higher ball flight then those who is using a 11 degree driver. One hoping to have a lower ball flight "the 11 degree) and one hoping for an higher ball flight..Where one scoop and one compress.
I believe for people who is using a 8.5 degree driver will have less carry then a 11 degree driver.
Assuming same swing, same length and same shaft and same head design.
People are having the impression of using a less loft driver will get them further, is that they thought the ball will fly better if the ball is flying low on a (Back wind) windy day. Again it is all depending on whether you are facing LOL High wind or low wind or even break wind.
I presume using different loft driver will only affect the roll on the ground rather then the carry. I believe it will make a different if we are playing on a soft ground.

I would like to see your logic with this as i don't believe.

quote: Again this is a blatant assumption and without a set of specifications of this "person" you're talking about can't just assume. Also an 8.5* driver should carry the ball less because there will be less spin than with the 11* driver and depending on the swing speed, shaft, ball speed, etc etc....the 11* may be too much loft creating too much spin and therefore ballooning shots for the person who hit the drive and actually carry LESS than the 8.5*.

If you are talking about the general average golfer, then yes. Most of them should be using high lofted drivers as they don't have enough swing/ball speed to use a lower lofted driver.

Not true, more loft = more backspin and less sidespin. Thats a fact. If you took me and fitted me for an 8.5* driver and a 11* driver i would probably carry the 11* driver about 10-15 yards further than the 8.5* but there would be very little roll due to the excess spin the 11* would provide.

Also one thing you failed to specify as well is driver head design. If i was using a Tour issued head i might go up 1-1.5* in loft to help counteract the lower launching/higher COG head. Or if i was using a big 460cc head versus something smaller. You usually have to go up 1* in the bigger heads because the COG is so far away from the face/ball the spin is much lower and you need to be able to get it in the air high enough.

So as i said before:

waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many variables ;)

Jim thanks mate, very interesting and is make lot of sense.. but I believe I am not far off of depicting a novice golfer's swing with a less loft driver?
According to what you say, you are sort of agree to what I mention about the hard and soft ground thingy. As hard ground will help both 8.5 and 11 to roll further, and soft ground is bad for the 11 degree driver, as it will stand less chance to roll...
You are absolutely right.. way too many variables, but is just that I just start this topic for a LOL....Cheers
