The Grip: Interlock vs. overlap

On TV this weekend the commentators mentioned that it seems like all the great players - Nicklaus, Tiger, and now Kim - have used the interlocking grip. Kostis (i know) stated that he feels that the interlock is a better grip especially given todays equipment and increases in swing speeds and kids should go with interlock. I have used the overlap since I was 13 but have experimented off and on over the past 2 years w/interlock and I like it. I am thinking a=of starting the season w/ interlock as I feel like it loosens my hands up and I am not as stiff.
Any opinions or thoughts on each grip?

personally i see absolutely no benefit to the interlock grip.

having said that, there's nothing wrong with it, just no benefits over the overlap. i personally use the overlap, it just feels more comfortable.

Do you want to loosen your hands?

Maybe firm hands but loose wrists is better?

Nicklaus, Tiger, "Kim"? Slow down before calling someone with one career win a great player. If you are swinging so hard that interlocking your fingers is the only way to keep your hands on the club, then you have bigger problems than your grip. Tiger said the reason he interlocks is because he copied Jack. It doesn't matter.

The discussion came up when they were discussing Kim. I disagree that it does not matter.

Interlock..........

I have small, perhaps girly, hands...........(no jokes please)......

If I use an overlap my right pinkie slides off my left forefinger at the very top of my swing. (max wristcock) And especially in the rain.

For me interlock = much more secure.

I think if you've never played golf before the overlapping grip is more natural and should be the preference regardless of the size of your hands. You can get all the security you'll ever need with a correct overlapping grip. The only time I use interlocking is when I'm practicing my swing without a golf club.
