The over/under...

Rory Mac's recent comments got me thinking...

What would you consider a good over/under for Eldrick's win total through the end of 2012? That gives him more than his 18-24 month window for change.

As a reference, he's averaged 4.75 wins per year.

Let’s put the number at 4 total wins over the next 2 years. Will he be over or under?

Under. Only because I don't think 18-24 month window for change applies in this case, he may be starting over soon.

OV-ahhh

I think he's going through a prolonged slump but if I was a wagering man (which I am), my $$ is on the over.

He's too talented to be kept down for too long.

Neil, do you think he'll be scrapping the Foley experiment and on to another method sooner than later?

Woody, doesn't every talented player (regardless of sport) have a beginning to the end of their prime?

I believe this is true. Kobe Bryant, for example, is in this stage. Still getting it done, still can win at the highest level, but the skill set is changing/declining/morphing with age.

I think he'll stick with Foley for at least another year and a half (until the end of the debated 2012 season), and probably longer. I think the over/under at 4 is a good one. I'll take the under, but I don't love my bet.

Great point: he is clearly in a transition period in his career. He isn't the bomber who overpowered courses or the untouchable Tiger who seemingly won tournaments with his aura of invincibility.

But I think the analogy of a crafty veteran baller who moves away from driving to the rack every trip down the court and decides to preserve himself for the post season by developing a game with their back to the basket and a 3-ball is fitting.

Granted Tiger doesn't have anything going right now (driving it crooked and rolling it poorly) but I think he'll figure it out. He may never get this method down or "own" his swing, but he'll find something that is workable and allows him to be near the top on the weekend and then the steely competitor will take over. If that happens - I think 4 wins in 2 years is very attainable...

Should we have some kind of a board-wide wager on, let's say, 4.5 PGA Tour wins? 4 or less vs. 5 or more by the end of the 2012 PGA Tour season. What should the stakes be? This could be fun.

I don't think it will be real soon. He'll try to see it through because of his personal investment but he's so competitive, how long before not winning gets old?

I think in tigers first ten years most of the good players were on their way out. All the youg players now are just as good and are not afraid which mentally is big, Tiger will win again but no more domination...jmo

If we can get the same number of people on each side, the wager could be one of Brian's (next) videos. Perhaps he'll even give us a volume discount... :) How about that?

I don't know if that's fair for Brian. He's already said "over", so that'd be like losing twice.

How 'bout a dozen balls?

A gift certificate to Maaco?

A dinner for two at Perkin's?

A script for Ambien?

Lot's of choices. :)

If Tiger is actually coming into his top form again, the line that mgranato set could be a good one.

Would 5 wins get Tiger comeback player of the year consideration?

I still like the under though. My car's brakes need replacing, but I'm going to wait a year to see if that Maaco gift certificate has a chance to arrive in the mail...

Tiger is yesterday's man and the new young bucks will deny him his past glory.

What Tiger needs is a competent science-based swing coach after Foley's experiment.
