The release and putting (with a Brian Manzella video answer)

Here in the U.K greens can be slower, especially this time of year. My short game coach last week introduced me to a bit of "wrist" motion.

My winter stroke now has a touch of on "shaft plane" flexion/extension going back and through. Just use the sheriff with a bit of wrist motion basically....

If you need to get your back to the target in putting, you probably aren't doing the full shot release correctly in the first place.:p

Finally some good constructive help.:)

BTW granato it looks like you are in a good position to execute a perfect toss with the pistol thus adding significantly to muzzle velocity (see Miura, 1986, p4).

Brian,

I thought the Runyan grip was intended to restrict wrist action? No?

Restrict the rolling or manipulation of the face open or closed more than is needed, rather than flex/extend?

I use a Two Thumb grip. Would this or a Super Stroke grip help this action? Seems to me that bit of wrist motion is pure flex/extend around the coupling point with these grips, very little roll.

I think you have nailed it Doctor. I now understand why I blow so many short putts - too much roll while flexing and extending. Less of a problem on long bombs where you just need to get it close and the longer stroke seems to reduce the roll. Thanks for the interpretation. I now understand BMs advice on flexing and extending on the right hand plane. Stops the roll doesnt it?

Thanks for the video Brian. I am using a 38" putter (Cabrera length, not belly) and really like how it swings and releases. Makes slot of sense when thinking about this video and letting the club release like you describe. Also bought and using a new aid called the can't miss. Really cool device in how it shows how much you can/should release.
