i watched a video by brian manzella and during this video he was talking about the backswing and how during the back swing the arms swing UP! well i have a 13 handicap and always felt like the club was swinging around my body (not a one plane) and getting behind my body and never really felt like my arms were swinging up in the swing WHICH MAY BE WHY I HAVE SOME
INCONSISTENCY. I WAS AT THE DEUTCHE bANK CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEK END AND ONE OF THE PRO'S WHO WAS GIVING INSTRUCTIONS WAS TALKING ABOUT HOW THE SHOULDERS MOVE ON A HORIZONTAL PLANE DURING THE BACK SWING WHILE THE ARMS ARE SWINGING UP!!! I TRIED THIS AT THE RANGE AND CANT TELL YOU HOW WELL I STRUCK THE BALL. WANTED TO ASK IF BRIAN OR ANYONE CAN TALK ABOUT THIS UP COMPONENT WITH THE ARMS. ASSUMING YOU GET THE CLUB TO THE RIGHT SPOT AT THE HALF WAY POINT WITH CLUB HEAD FACING UP THE COMPLETION OF THE TURN SHOULD BE THE ARMS SWINGING UP???????

It must be Manzella youtube show #3. That is something I can't understand why Greg McHatlon said in his video: "Don't lift the club up!" I mean both Brian and Greg are great, hope Brian can help us a lot more.

Greg probably said that in his video cause in his discriptions when I spent a few days with him he describes a pattern that the club raises up as the arms slow down during the change of direction.... its just another pattern in the Matrix Bowl. Greg and Brian are in the Top 4 Golfing Machine instructors of all time!

Sure they are and you too! I also got your DVD, my first DVD after I discovered TGM almost 2 years ago, and that is great too. Back to the topic, I think the plane at the top is different, Greg looks flatter to me. Anyway, I think that is not an imperative.

BTW, IMHO, your pattern is quite similar to Greg, but with impact hands at address. So, I have a doubt. If 3 of you to run days school, how to compromise the pattern to be taught? Mid body address or impact hands address; do or don’t lift the arms…but one thing I am sure you guys come to 100% agreement, that is “Pivot” to do all the work.…:)

What a teacher puts in a video or does in their own pattern doesn't mean that they teach that to students. Most videos or books have a basic pattern or 2 that give a flavor of their teaching and then the student comes to get their swing customized. People ask me all the time about mid body hands and impact hands at setup --- For myself and my school, we have tremendous success with our students who are beginners or very high handicaps applying an impact hands address and mid body hands for golfers who generally are more advanced. A dvd like explosive golf or a tape by gregg mchattan is a short piece of info for a flavor.... personalization is needed. So, a complete system for everyday golfers is needed....... Coming Soon!!!!!!

According to Brian's "research", mid body hands enable the golfer to make the club work like a club better.

Mid Body hands are not doubt the most comfortable - and the best for moving out of line to in line

I start my beginners and higher handicappers at impact hands as an aid to see and learn a flat left wrist and then I move them to mid body hands when I feel they are ready -- A personal teaching choice
