The Worse Swing Device in Golf??

I have to laugh. I was reading some posts on FGI and a lot of the people there have apparently purchased the David Leadbetter SwingSetter. Now they are all casting in an effort to pop that ball back into place and teach proper release:)

I truly believe the worse term in golf is "release". To most people they interpret that as "flip"

Mr. Leadbetter at it again, wrecking swings world wide. At least it's helping to keep guys like Brian, Lynn, Ben, and Bobby's lesson books full...

One of the best definitions I've heard for "release" is truly to "let go" (isn't that what "release" really means?). It's what I use on my dog when I want her to let go of something she has in her mouth!

In my mind (as a swinger} that's a pretty good image to have - to really "let go" and not impede CF. I think most golfers tense up and just refuse to "let it go" through the release interval and impact.

Robbo

BTW - have you seen a quicker, "jumpier" set of golf swings than you do in the Swingsetter infomercial????

I have had no luck with the swingsetter, you almost have to flail the thing to the top to get the magnets to seperate (even on the lowest level).

I am a golf gizmo freak (none has helped as much as knowing what I should be doing) and I do own both the medicus (old and new) and swing setter. Swingsetter should be avoided at all costs, I can click it at the bottom but the forceful, early wrist set, needed will really ruin your swing (if you have one).

As far as the medicus. Brian is right, I sliced the old one all over the map (you can come over the top and/or have uneducated hands). I stopped using the old medicus because a slice was my big issue. A year or so ago, I got the new medicus. Guess what, it is harder to come over the top but you can still slice easily with uneducated hands.

I imagine it is frustrating to most golfers who have poor hands but a generally good swing to get this and not be "fixed".

Training aids I actually use and like.....very few and far between (Tac-Tic, Vision Track, Speed Stik, and Swing Rite). I still buy many (plus some really old ones from Ebay) for curiousity more than anything else.

I immediately didn't like the swingsetter and rarely use either medicus. I mostly use Tac-Tic and use Speed Stik for stretching and to build up my swing.

Anybody else have some they hate, hate, hate.

Oh, another one that really is bad, the swingjacket. Not sure how it is supposed to help but it locks your arms to your body near the elbows. I can swing with it on but you have to turn your body way around to hit the ball. My brother in law has one and swore by it. I purchased the original about three years ago and tried it in the back yard (won't go to the range and try it). Too restrictive but I can see what it is trying to do which is lock your arm action and body turn.

While it works, what happens once you take it off.

All I know is that I can make a better move with a straight jacket on. Hmmmm. Maybe I should market that as a new swing trainer. I have often thought about marketing a rope with a spiked ball at the end. If you swing correctly with FLW you don't get a spiked ball to the face. I thought you could learn in maybe two or three swings.

Speed Chain anyone? I have heard good and bad about it. Anyone out there familiar with it and it it works to increase speed in the golf swing?

Saw the speed chain video. Claims 10 mph increase. Think I will stick with a speed stik which will also give 10 mph and won't kill you.

Any other crappy training aids out there? Come on, I know some of you have some you don't like. I am thinking about getting a new one out there called Swing Perfect. It sets itself to your plane and then vibrates when you are off plane. You can use your clubs and also hit balls with it. I do have flashlights and trace the plane using dowels and such but I like the thought of having something help me do that at the range while hitting. I saw one demo'd here in SA a few weeks back and I tried it. Use your club set up and the thing will remember your plane from that point. You then move back through 1/4, 1/2 etc. One thing it did that I liked is that you had to keep you butt end pointed at your plane line base to keep it from vibrating. I liked it so I ordered one. I'll let you know after some serious use.

The only way to make it worse would be for it to turn into a reverse stun gun, sending 250,000 volts through you when off-plane! Every tour player would get fried. :(
