Brian, forgive me for going off-topic.

But can you say something about the slightly different elbow positions of these two pics? Tiger's is pointing more down than Vijay's. Is this significant? How does it affect other areas of the stroke? Which one do you prefer?

Thanks.

Wow!

They are different.

Yes it is.

How does it affect other areas of the stroke?

Changes the loading. Changes the clubface. And MUCH, MUCH more.

Which one do you prefer?

Which ever one is right for that player. Which could be a book or video unto itself.

Great, you're getting me to ask more questions!

Ok, we know they are both Swingers. So I assume they both Drag Load the club, agree or not?

I'm sure you know that "the book" prefers a more downward pointing elbow for swingers than hitters (so it loads for the club, rather than the left arm and club). But you seem to be hinting there's more to it than that!

So...don't right a book, but tell us more!

Leo,

I will post more later on this (probably in another thread), but lets just say it is OBVIOUS to me, that both right elbow/arm positions work well for different kinds of SWINGS.

Do you really want my answer?

No Brian, I don't want to hear your answer...

Of course I want to know! Please start a new thread.

Nicklaus is a good example of someone with a "flying" right elbow (much more than Vijay's elbow) who is also a Swinger. I think it's most compatible with Single Wrist Action where the left wrist has a no roll feel to the top. But why would a swinger want to do that anyway.

Leo,

How are you? The slightly greater separation between VJ's right elbow/triceps and ribs could potentially put him above the TSP, you can just see a gap between the under side of his left arm and his shoulders whereas there's no gap in the Tiger photo.

Funny that you are talking about this because i made a small discovery (for me anyway) last night about elbow positions at the top of the backswing:

The more you keep the elbow pointing down the more tendency you will have to keep the left wrist flatter and SLIGHTLY get the club to point more to the left of target (see tiger/hogan)

The more you let the elbow point out the more tendency you will have to 1) bend the left wrist to keep it pointed down the target line or 2) to keep a flat left wrist you will have to allow the club to go crossline. (see Goosen)

They will also effect your how your elbow ends up in it's pitch/punch position as well and other things i've noted.

Yes yes yes...

I see a lot of students with high right elbows who get across the line at the top and badly off plane, it also provides less support for the left arm flying wedge and as a consequence tends to cause the left elbow to sag downwards towards the right shoulder. In addition, it causes the golfer to lose all pressure points in the right triceps

Thanks for asking the question.

I've never been sure where or how to view what "the book" describes as "precisely in-line with and directly opposed" position of the right forearm.
