Those one moves... the ones that don't go away.

I have an issue in my backswing that has been prevalent for many, many years of playing golf. Somehow, in the process of drawing it back, I early extend, goat hump, whatever you want to call it. When my timing is on, its not too big of a deal. However, it has been one of those issues that no matter what I try, I can't get it to go away. I definitely think if I could figure out some way to combat it (preferably fix it), I could see some drastic improvements in consistency.

Anyone else have any recurring demons?

For a do it yourself fix.

One tailbone.

One towel.

One chair.

One club.

Position yourself to hit a ball as far forward as possible.

Behind you, with a chair, roll up a big towel and place it between your tailbone and the back of the chair.

At half power, swing at the forward ball.

Keep the towel in place by lowering and rotate down and around to catch the ball.

After the ball is sent the towel will fall.

Go slow.

Rick,

Thank you for the drill. I'll do it. I have a tailbone, a towel, a chair, and plenty of different clubs, so I'm all in. Just a quick clarification, do you mean ball position really forward?

Thanks for your response, much appreciated,

B

From the left heel the ball is placed forward.

No more than the length of your shoe.

Also you can move it inside the base line the width of a ball.

Address is same as you would do if the ball was not moved.

You move to the new ball position.

Just read a thread over at Michael Jacobs who did some great analysis of spktho's swing. Among other things he was pulling up the upper torso on the backswing. You can see that particular portion of the thread here

Amounts of Rear Wrist Extension Through DS? - Page 3

But there is a lot more on this thread and I recommend reading it all. Helped me to get the club and upper torso in a much better position to power down.
