i've heard the term 'throw the javelin' or something to that effect at the ball or aiming point. can someone describe this a little more? i'm still plagued by hitting just slightly fat and have tried many things. would taking the butt end of the club and getting that to go just forward of the ball help out? thanks

The underhand javelin is a feel that helps you get into a deeper pitch right elbow. It can be used for a number of faults and hitting it fat in the manner in which you do, it could help.

Pieman,

I made the same assumptions with this concept until I got a lesson with Brian. That is a big mistake with the "throw the javelin" concept. You do not throw the javelin at the aiming point or toward the ball. Doing that gets your right arm to "on top" and a bent plane line which sends your shots left.

You literally want to throw the javelin (or golf club) like you would a javelin try to throw it "out" and not into the ground. See how far you can throw the javelin underhanded. That should get you the feeling you are looking for.
