Tiger: Go Fishing or Be #1 ??

Greetings ...

The following is from the February 1975 issue of Golf Digest ...

"I don't that Jack has even reached his peak. Look at it this way. Jack Nicklaus has geared himself to be #1. He won't settle for #2. He'll either be #1 or he'll go fishing."

Miller paused, as if to visualize the sight of Nicklaus in a rowboat, munching a bag lunch, then added "I don't think Jack wants to go fishing every day."

Johnny Miller won eight times on tour in 1974 - Bing Crosby, Phoenix, Tucson, Heritage, Tournament of Champions, Westchester, World Open at Pinehurst and Kaiser International at Napa, Cal - and set a new money winning record with $346,302 official ($353,021 total), well ahead of Jack Nicklaus - wins at Hawaii and the Players at Atlanta, money earnings of $234,455 official ($238,178 total).

Miller was proud to have achieved his record-setting year of 1974 at a time when the likes of Nicklaus, Weiskopf and Trevino were still in their prime.

30 years later, Vijay Singh is about to set a new money-winning record and bury Tiger Woods in the process. The likes of Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Mike Weir, Jim Furyk and Retief Goosen are currently in their prime.

So, do you think Tiger Woods wants to go fishing in 2005?

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

Like all good things, and Tiger was the best thing to happen to golf since Palmer who was the best thing since the return of Hogan, nature forced Tiger out of the top to allow the natural rise of all he improved in the game. Like any mentorship relation, the student must challenge and surpass the teacher. Now Tiger must step up and reinvent himself in order to regain his superiority. That is the nature order of sport.

BTW, not a big tiger fan but recognize his importance.
