Greetings ...
The following is from the February 1975 issue of Golf Digest ...
"I don't that Jack has even reached his peak. Look at it this way. Jack Nicklaus has geared himself to be #1. He won't settle for #2. He'll either be #1 or he'll go fishing."
Miller paused, as if to visualize the sight of Nicklaus in a rowboat, munching a bag lunch, then added "I don't think Jack wants to go fishing every day."
Johnny Miller won eight times on tour in 1974 - Bing Crosby, Phoenix, Tucson, Heritage, Tournament of Champions, Westchester, World Open at Pinehurst and Kaiser International at Napa, Cal - and set a new money winning record with $346,302 official ($353,021 total), well ahead of Jack Nicklaus - wins at Hawaii and the Players at Atlanta, money earnings of $234,455 official ($238,178 total).
Miller was proud to have achieved his record-setting year of 1974 at a time when the likes of Nicklaus, Weiskopf and Trevino were still in their prime.
30 years later, Vijay Singh is about to set a new money-winning record and bury Tiger Woods in the process. The likes of Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Mike Weir, Jim Furyk and Retief Goosen are currently in their prime.
So, do you think Tiger Woods wants to go fishing in 2005?
Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport
