Tiger vs. Vijay at the top

Before the boards changed over, I remember Brian saying that he was going to shed light on the differences between Vijay's right elbow position at the top and Tiger's and what differences they had on ball flight.

Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

Here's a good pic anyway:

It may be moot. VS has radically changed his swing in the last month. Where he used to be quite flat, now he takes it quite inside on the backswing and then gets his hands WAY above his head, with the club crossing the line at the top.

TGC had a small segment on VS's changes this weekend. I couldn't believe the differences.

But....

I will comment on these particualr Top of The Backswing psotions.

I like VJ's right arm position more for good players. But his Left Arm Flying Wedgeis over-rotated.

Tiger's arm is all bunched up, and I feel that his downstroke loading, and his tendency to over-rotate as well, would be better serve with his right arm "wider."

:)

Can this (Tiger) be caused by swinging to steeply? He has to keep the arms in to get the shoulder going down?

Right elbow more specifically...

My search for this answer is that right now I have a more Tiger-like position and was curious to see if I would benefit from having my right elbow point more behind me.

I am a pretty good golfer, unfortunately, my scratch handicap is the result of a great short game, not consistent ball striking. You mentioned that Vijay's position is better for the better golfer, maybe I should work on it?

Just trying to get better :)

Very interesting post. Working WITH tendencies...most are out to change them.....

...

Why better for good players?

Why VJ's left wedge overrated? (does it have to do with that driver possibly being something like 7 degrees open...?.....)

Brian, you always do a great job in translating raw TGM language, so how would you interpret the photos demonstrating the right forearm/elbow positions in the context of 7-3 in the book?

Do you believe that the position of the right forearm determines the manner in which the shaft is stressed?

Sorry if this comes across as a bit book literalist.... but compared with soem of the physics stuff recnetly then this should be light relief!!;) :D

Hi Brian
Could you post a pic of what you think is the ideal right elbow position at the top of the swing,
OR even better,
Could you do a video lesson on the right elbow as it would make great viewing and really give us here a good insite to that position.
Also does anyone have a video link of VJ's new swing.
Thanks
Addam
