Here's a great look today at what Tiger's swing looks like right now with the driver:

I have to say, Tiger's initial hand path as the downswing starts still looks too vertical to me. I'd like it if he made it look more like this:

<iframe width="480" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/84p4MnrRs8E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Or this:

The camera angle is less down the line on Tiger which would make anyone's hand path look more vertical. Not that you are wrong, I just don't see enough here to know what's going on.

Ah, I didn't realize that. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe Tiger isn't regressing.

Lifter, please explain to us what you feel that would do to Tigers swing and why. How would that affect his current ballflight? What is his current ballflight?

Kevin! Always glad to hear from you.

Here is a wild-ass guess. Ballflight: seems like Tiger isn't able to control the curve as consistently as he'd like. In particular, I think when he tries to fade it, he double-crosses it too frequently. And I suspect that those pulls are "hooks in disguise."

Over the course of his career, Tiger's initial hand path from the top has varied substantially. The Harmon hand path was much more diagonal.

But under Haney, it became more and more vertical. I also think Tiger has substantially more hip thrust than he used to.

If Tiger made that initial hand path less vertical, maybe he'd be more rotational with his body and less slidey. More rotation, less hip thrust, less slide?

Hey forum, what do y'all think?

He arrived to Foley with a heavy in-to-out path number.... what movements tend to produce that motion?

He now has that number closer to neutral... what movements tend to produce changes in that direction?

Good point! I bet Tiger's initial hand path is more horizontal than it was under Haney. I just sense that it needs to become even more horizontal.

Ahhh.... more based on a look or numbers?

There's no conflict here. I think a hand path that is more horizontal would result in better TrackMan numbers.

Heck, we've seen Tiger rehearsing a better hand path with his practice swings for well over a year. It could be that he can do a good hand path on the range and on TrackMan but he reverts back to bad Haney habits under the gun.

You like a more horizontal initial handpath. After that initial horizontal move, describe the rest of your desired handpath into and through impact.

People would be better off examining the changes in Tigers hand path from face on and less down the line. That's the change that most contradicts his natural wide swing.

WOW! If that's the best Woody can do with the Sergeant F then he's FINISHED. That swing is a joke in many respects.

The hip motion looks like it is affected by the excessive bend at setup.

All a bit unnatural, effortful and prone to getting slightly off balance (with driver anyway).

Don't think Tiger will be very consistent off the tee with this swing.

I do like Tiger and so want him to be buzzing like days gone by I just fear we are only gonna keep getting bursts of brilliance rather than sustained excellence......it all looks to much like hard work these days for him to ever revive the domination he used to show. Shame really.. I like elements of this new motion and in some ways it should be more reliable I just get nervous when he pulls driver out!!! god knows how he must feel.
