Brian,
My long-time go-to move in the downswing has been "left shoulder up."
I like it because it is easy, works well, and adds power.
I feel I may be overdoing it (or at least missing something else) but am unsure.
Even though NHA worked wonders for me, I assume this is why I may have had certain (too inside/out) problems with it. Shanking at times- mostly when hitting down a good bit..and big big push fades.
I have tried integrating more hips into the downswing. Tried to open em once done counterfalling- seemingly like the young Nicklaus clip I just posted. I have been recently resting my shoulder and neck (and it is winter) but in my last experiments, trying to integrate this move gave me quite a case of the shanks.
Embarassingly bad. Back to "lots of twistaway in the backswing to cure this" bad.
I do know opening the hips too early puts your arms in a place (relative to your body and desired path) where you are likely to swing too far in to out...and hit shanks...esp. if you are adding a lot of tilt once you are in that spot.
What do you think of this?
1. Should I look to integrate more hips?
Was my timing simply off when I tried this earlier? (and timing of what moves?)
Movements needs to be smoother? (more seamless)
Use feel and results to gauge just "HOW open?"
2. Should I simply use my current "left shoulder up" move but with more Tumble to start my downswing? (direct arms more left to start / perhaps even hope pivot reacts to that movement)
3. Any other ideas?
...
You recently talked about "Pop UP." (left shoulder up too early [and too much?])
I presume I may be a "Pop UPPPER."
Sorry bout the long post but I feel this to be a good topic. I have ignored the hips. I realize now that if they can move independently (which they can) perhaps I need to use them to be more open and control my armswing.
The hips: the next conscious (or at least consciously trained) movement in the chain after The Counterfall? (counterfall puts pressure back onto the left foot)
