Hi,

I seem to be hitting the ball pretty well in competitions but this year I havent really scored well. I know this year I should of broke par in competition I know its in me but it hasent gone my way this year. Played in a competition today, missed a few short putts but otherwise I was real pleased, I was striking the ball well, chipping pretty well and driving wasnt bad I felt pretty happy then i add my score up at the end and I was +10 I DONT UNDERSTAND! Havent got a clue what i was doing wrong! I hit 1 or 2 bad shots that cost me 2 sixes, so fustrating.

Although I was striking it well, I find I dont give myself enough birdie putts on par 4's, so i cant be hitting enough greens, any tips on getting my GIR stats up on par 4's??

Thre GIR stat can be very misleading...size and depth of the greens you are playing on matter...One could say I hit 17 of 18 greens with an average distance of 35 feet from the hole versus a player who hits 12 of 18 greens with an average distance of 18 feet..with 5 of the 6 misses on the fringe within 20 feet of the hole...Who is having a better ball striking round?....Work from the center of the green toward the pins..Sometimes you can get caught pin hunting and really pay a price once in a while...Otherwise if you need to improve your skills of ballstriking...get a lesson from someone that knows what he's doing or play more golf!!!

If you move the ball primarily one way then don't aim right at the pin. Play the percentages. If you fade it aim 15 feet (or whatever based on the club you hit and how much you fade that club) left of the pin. Then if you hit your normal cut you are at the pin. If you hit it straight you are 15 feet or if you over cut it you are 15 feet right of the pin.

Also, play for pars. Birdies will come. On the tee say . . . How can I par THIS hole TODAY. Hit the shot the right distance to the MIDDLE of the green and putt to the edges. It has worked for Jack and now it works for Eldrick.

Well I play enough golf I play near enough everyday lol its just lately I have either been hitting a block or a draw so i dont know whats going to happen.

If I had a draw EVERYSHOT then I could hit more greens, but another option is to try and hit more FAIRWAYS so I can go at the GREENS more often :p!

As far as your +10, missing several short putts adds up FAST! Everyone misses a short putt or two now and again, and I'm not suggesting it is a weakness for you, but being great inside 10 feet is huge for a tournament player.

Yes i agree, I was +2 for the front nine and then after the 12th where I kind of messed up I lost my concentration on the 14th and 15th and missed 2 putts within 6ft for pars!!!! 14th I had a really good birdie opurtunity but left it 4ft short :-0!!!

I think its just concentration and course management with me!
