Too flat

What's the best way to cure a flat backswing? When I pause 3/4 back the butt is pointing well outside the imaginary base line. If I hooked a lazer to my club the dot would be a couple feet out there. Is that a major problem? I assume the reason for my right to left ball flight?? Help needed.

THanks!

Try using a lagging clubhead type takeaway. Just work that butt end away from the ball first, this will throw the club outside a bit more so when you lift you won't be so flat.

Do you start with mid-body hands? I know that Jim has suggested that as well. Another tip that I picked up from here was to imagine there is a brick wall on the target line and when you start your backswing, take the clubhead up the wall. Hope that helps.

Thanks Jim but that's what I'm using right now. Any other tips?

THX again!

Make sure when you're lagging it away that you are lagging that butt parallel to your target line. Some students who do it, tend to still lag it "inside" and thus defeat the whole purpose of that takeaway imo.

Is that just a band-aid though? Wouldn't I then have a too upright swing? Sorry for the ignorance.

No, the turned shoulder plane is a lot higher than most people think it is. I can make full backswings with my butt about a foot away from a wall no problem.

Now since i shift i can't make downswings but backswings yes.

Even with a driver Jim?

PS Do you have a clip of your swing?

thx

Improvement

Well I've been hitting balls in my garage making sure to have more of an upright backswing and the results have been good. I've also let my right knee lose some flex if needed, in the past I've always tried to keep that sucker from moving. Only problem is that a slight sway creeps in when it straightens some. Will have to do some mirror work and make sure there's no sway.

Thanks

what happens when you are lagging it inside? I thought it's suppose to pass your right thigh?
