Too much hip slide on the downswing

Mornin’ boys,

I have always had a problem with too much hip slide in the downswing and getting in front of the ball. My second lesson with Brian confirmed that. I have played about 7 rounds since that last lesson and I am gradually moving too much again and my striking is suffering. What are your best drills for this other than the one I have started using yesterday (stick a shaft in the ground on the target side of the front hip and don’t bump it)???????

j,

You may try extending (straightening) your left leg more rapidly on the downswing...once it is extended, pivot around it.....

An alternative thought is to imagine you are turning in a glass tube and your body parts cannot push outside the tube...

Throw the drunk off your shoulder....

Actually, I had this same problem when I had my lesson with Brian. He had lots of helpful tips, but the drunk deal was one to get me turning vs sliding. The other, that really seemed to help me, is to feel like I'm really moving off the ball on the backswing. I had a tendency to stay very centered on the backswing which caused me to really slide my left hip in trying to stay inside on the downswing. The finish seems much more complete now.

Of course I'm not a teacher - so I likely have no idea what I'm talking about.:D
