Too much twistaway???

I was looking at my swing closely on the computer last night vs. some other people's swings, and I think I may be on to something. On my backswing, I believe I have a lot of twistaway that I "hold on to" and never really let release on either side of the balll. I was looking at video of Michael Finney and Tom Purtzer and was really struck by how much "wedding ring up" they have not too long after contact. It seems like I have the opposite of them - on the backswing, my clubface is looking at the ground, and they are more "toe up", but on the thru swing, they are more "face down" and I'm more "toe up". I guess I would classify myself as more of a "shut faced blocker" a la Azinger/Duval without as much rotation (which I probably need more of if I don't change what I'm doing).

I'm guessing that I probably need to allow more forearm rotation in both directions, but as a person who tends to hook, it seems like a scary proposition. Just wondering from the teachers out there if this is a common occurrence, and if I seem to be thinking about this properly.

Also wondering if this is kind of covered in NSA - I've bought every other video that Brian has produced, except for that one. I know he will be talking about adding twistaway ( I think I need less), but he will talk about wedding ring up, which I do think I need. I was never sure how much I would get out of NSA, because I'm not OTT/Open face, I'm underplane with a closed face.

I'm no teacher, so don't get upset, but...I believe that this can happen if you have too much "popout" in the backswing.... if you have a good feel of where the clubhead is. My 2 cents.

NSA answers this question. I hook as well, and found NSA to be a terrific help. If you leak hook, ie, flip the club closed, the NSA dvd really can help.

When I first visited this site, I thought I was a flipper, but the more I look at video of myself, the more I don't think that any longer. Seems like I have decent and repeatable impact and post impact FLW. I think my hooking is more underplane/D-Plane related than it is to flipping.

Might also come down to terminology of what exactly are the parameters that define a flipper or a leakage hooker.

BTW - I don't mind if non-teachers respond as was mentioned in my original post, I appreciate any thoughts/feedback.

Everyone, at some point, should learn how to hit a shot with the wedding ring up swivel imo. Because if you can do that and do it fairly well, you have enough clubface control to move on to other variations.

i think you should watch nsa, b/c the last quarter of the video talks about what to do once you have cured your slice, but start to hit it "too" left. the first thing mentioned is less twistaway, along with "hitting the box" and some others you may find helpful.
