Too soft shaft causes slice?

I bought a used driver on impulse (it looked pretty) before starting my round a few weeks ago with a R flex. All of my balls slice, which is something that has not infected my swing in at least 5 years... I must admit to being an awful driver of the ball, but my misses have never been this bad. I love the head on this driver. Should I take comfort in blaming the arrow instead of the indian and reshafting with a much stiffer shaft?

8 degree head with an AJTech 4270 shaft-- nice expensive SOFT shaft...

FOReeeee RIGHT!

Soft/Right

It has been my experience that an overloaded shaft won't kick properly and the miss is 4 right.

Where would you say you generate the most ACCELLERATION? Do you have a quick transition or a slow smooth one? About what is your swing speed?

Ya man....if you can hit your 4 iron 230........R-flex would prolly = ahhhhhhhhh.

I would feel like I had to swing like a grandpa. (or grandma)

Some would say it could be good in a sense.....prolly is pushin it tho.

I have a quick transition (I don't drag a wet mop). I do not know my swing speed but I hit a 4 iron around 230-240. If I could only hit driver.....

Birdie's right. If you hit the ball 230-240 with a 4 iron, that reg. shaft is going to give you nothing but misery. You'll do well to get fit by a reputable clubmaker. With that kind of speed, I'd expect you to be in an x-flex.

Quick transition and 240 with a 4 iron.. I'd say Stiff to possible X depending on the manufacturer of the shaft.

It sounds like the shaft is being overloaded and can't catch up. Go see a fitter and get your club head speed done. Then he/she can better match you to a proper shaft flex.

Please explain to me how someone who can hit a 4 iron 230 be in any kind of S flex?

He said he has a quick transition with means his maximum acceleration point is a bit earlier in his forward swing. He accelerates more at the beginning than by the time he gets to the ball.... and it's not SPEED that you match the shaft to, it's accelleration.

I wonder if Jim thinks he should be X flex and never S. With that distance and an aggressive transition S might be out of the question. I could be wrong too LOL

4 Iron 230-240

Please check the bottom of your 4 iron for scratches as you're not supposed to hit it off of paved surfaces such as highways and tarmacs. Seriously if you hit a 4 iron that far there is no way you would every look at a club with a R shaft, please be a bit more reality based or visit BSG and work w/them on a fitting.

Why? I have Regular flex in my irons and I hit my 3 iron 230-235. By every fitter I've ever seen they say I should be in stiff. But they're all wrong and I know why.

Carl Spackler's distance

"This crowd has gone deadly silent, a Cinderella story outta nowhere. Former greenskeeper and now about to become the masters champion ... He's on his final hole. He's about 455 yards away, he's gonna hit about a 2 iron I think ... IT'S IN THE HOLE!"

You guys hit it out there with Carl, very impressive

I'd love to see your launch monitor data, i have a hard time believing that you can hit a 3 iron with a R flex that far WITH optimal launch/spin rates.

I'm not saying you couldn't do it, my friend plays soft iron shafts too and he hits his 3 iron farther than you BUT they do balloon on him and because of that he gets inconsistent distances at times (even on flushed hits).

Ahhh...I see...so its not how fast you swing the club, it's how you swing the club fast...spooky!

But wait a minute, what about all those launch monitors and computers. I hope clubfitters don't just have them to baffle folks and convince them to buy whatever they haven't got at present...that would never happen, right?
