I can't get a handle on this concept. Can someone 'splain to me how it's done???
The shoulder, arm and club tracing along the roof, which lies on a flat inclined plane and points to the edge or gutter, a straight line or plane line.

The end of the club closest to the ground always points at the plane line.

paraphrasing Tongzilla:

Replace your right arm with a flashlight. Shine the beam at the plane line. Moving the beam up and down the plane line is 'tracing a straight plane line.'

Who ACTUALLY Traces as the procedure?

I find that when I Trace I don't get enough DOWN and tend to Steer.

I could just be a tard.

Practice Tracing.

But when you are actually hitting balls, use Aiming Point...or whatever else that works...preferably something to do with your Hands.

How is someone using, for instance, a triple shift, going to manage?

Theoretically, I believe the clubshaft can change pitch and still be pointing at the plane line, but I don't think many players actually do it or try to do it for the whole swing -- maybe just a little at start up to get started and again approaching impact.

I don't use the procedure myself -- in the sense that I am consciously, meticulously trying to trace the plane line. Too much to think about.
