Brian,

I'm hoping you can answer a question for me about how Trackman measures Swing direction. For those not interested in the minutia of swing theory and Trackman, read no further.

Let's assume we are holding a plate of glass at a 45 degree angle and the base line of the plate of glass is on the target line. This we can certainly call a representation of a level strike with a swing direction of 0.0

Now, if we take the same plate of glass and push it into the ground at that 45 degree angle, the base line of the plate of glass that is in the ground would now be parallel right of the target (some ridiculous small amount) but the base line of the plane at ground level would still be 0.0

Would trackman consider the baseline of the plate of glass that is in the ground as 0.0 (at the target) or something else?

Thanks for your time.

why would the base line-to-target number change if you shoved the plate into the ground?

They wouldn't.

That was the error in my question.

The angle to the target wouldn't change.

It would still be parallel.

I was getting too tied up with distance from target line instead of angle from target line.

Similar to a set up.

Ball on target, stance line parallel.

Same angle to target but 3 feet away from it.
