Training Aid - metronome type device

An Asian co. was marketing this at the PGA Show.
It was a device that I think beeped 3 times:
1. one for your takeaway
2. one for the top of your backswing
3. one for the end of your the end of the followthrough (when your hands are again higher than your shoulders)

It's supposed to help you train tempo.
They showed video of Tiger, Seri Pak and a lot of other pros.
The beeps were exactly the same. For example, for a specific player they showed several different swings, but the tempo beeps were the same for each video clip. ie. the backswing ended at the second beep and the hands above-the-shoulder followthrough ended exactly at the third beep.

My question: for each swing, is it really that consistent? Would the same temo be used across all clubs whether it's a 9I or driver?
Do tour pros practice the EXACT tempo? 1-2-3?

Well I think its pretty much useless.... IMO

All you need to know is....

On Putting -

The backswing and the throughswing of the putter should be the pretty much the same distance using the golf ball as your center marker. Because the distance when you bring the putter backwards from the ball is half the distance you will be taking the putterblade forwards, you create a steady speed or acceleration which is a very important concept to understand. That is the true meaning of the word acceleration...

On swing shots -

Your tempo on short irons must be verging on the lazy IMO because I think you can dial a specific speed better. But from Mid irons (around 6 iron plus) up I believe you have to have a confident strike - one that is fully committed, just make sure your not uncontrolled. Your mechanics will bring good tempo, working on tempo only at best mask flaws.... been there done that...working on it...

But you should not take notice of a company finding a few swings that fit there product, say its the secret of the pro's and sell it to unsuspecting customers.

You can get the same result swinging a cup/bucket of water from hip to hip.

To keep the water in the bucket, you must have a good, smooth, tempo, that stays in synch with the chest. Your transition must 'wait' for the change of direction.

From there, you can learn to 'build' speed in the swing

Wait until you check their other strokes, including short game and putting, long or short.

Kevin Na trains with a metronome to help with his putting. I think Payne Stewart trained using one for rhythm but you get a sense of rhythm looking at one . There is a click but this relates to the change of direction when looking at the device in action. I don't see how a series of bleeps is going to help you.

Brian: How do you train tempo? Thanks.
