Trick to shorten swing

Was at the range today and was messing around with different techniques and noticed something !
Ive always had a little past parallel swing with all of my clubs even my irons .

I was messing around with my grip today on the range because my fingers felt a little fat or something today lol.. Anyways i moved my trigger/pointer finger down and away from the other fingers and curled it a little .. Ive always kept that finger right next to my middle finger maybe that's why i never felt any pressure there like a lot of people feel.

Anyways it shortened my backswing without me changing anything in my rhythm or tempo!! I think the reason it shortens your swing is because the club is more secure and it can't get soft and noodle like at the top .

Just something I noticed that might help others with a swing that get's to long at times

Thanks I give that a go. I tend to be rather long (not with my balls though only with my club :(

Short hitter shortening his swing...

As long as you aren't doing something strange with your right leg, lifting your heel way up, lifting up off the shot, bending your left arm like crazy, or playing the flute at the top, I don't think past parallel matters.

If you are hitting the ball in the center of the face why not try to give the clubhead more time to develop speed? Or are you not hitting it consistently solid?

Sometimes i doubt my decision to shorten my swing as well. I compared some flightscope data from feb this year to a recent session. My club head speed with the 7iron was 84 mph and a smash of about 1.3, average carry was 140 yards with range balls. Now the swing speed dropped to 79 mph and the smash factor dropped as well (could that be due to other more restricted range balls?)

But my swing used to be very violent, my club was bouncing off my back at the end of the follow through. I think my dispersion went down now and I am more balanced. I can can now stop my swing without hitting my back ;-)

Before I used brute force, now I have to learn to make that up with technique.

Those range balls must be pure crap or your swing speeds (most likely) are way over stated.
Just sayin'.
