turning off plane

My typical miss is a hook. And I've seen my swing on video enough to know why, or at least think I know why. Basically I feel like I pull to hard with the left hand and the handle is dragged way to much. So the hosel gets lagged instead of the sweet spot. Thus, before impact I think I have to time a flip of some sort, altho my hands are always ahead at impact.

So I got to thinking, that maybe I should work on turning the club off the plane, lagging the sweet spot more. That way the club is less open as it approaches the ball.

It is an interesting feeling, because when I practice swing that way (haven't got to hit balls with the idea yet) it feels like it would make the ball hook more. But logically, it makes sense to me.

Any thoughts?

My guess is that you just play the ball too far back in your stance. This promotes an overly in to out hit which you then try to steer at the target.

In to out swing path + closed club face = hook.

Before tampering with your swing and building in unnecessary compensations just try moving your ball a little further forward at address.

Burner,

I have a forward ball position. A lot of people ask me why I play it so far forward. I don't know why I do, but I just know I hit it better with it there than further back.

Thanks for the input.
