I do this on the backswing, and try to hold, is there anyone who does it on the downswing, if so why, and is there an advantage to doing it early vs. late or vice-versa

Of course you need to do it on the downswing if you have any kind of a decent pivot to keep the face from opening AGAIN. Everyone "holds the twist" to some extent in the downswing. As for pro/con of early/late, it's player dependent.

Don't know if this is common, but in working with Damon, my face is good at the top, but for some reason it stays open on the downswing. Do you see this much Jim? It's particularly a killer ( obviously so ) with my driver. I am working on the drills Damon gave me, though not as much as I wish I could.
