I just finished watching NSA 2.0 for the 3rd time, its great, I have been working on my irons with it and I am starting to make really good contact, especially with 8iron - SW. But with my driver I am hitting huge pulls using the twist away motion. Anything drills I can try to correct this?

Thanks

Did you...

...watch the end of the movie?

Just get your thumb more under the shaft at the top.

But...

If you need the "twistaway" for solid---non-slicing---contact, then make sure your right foot is pulled slightly back at address, and---without getting your shoulders way closed---get your right shoulder as far from the ball as you can at address.

And....you need AXIS TILT!!!

Straight line path (from the top to the left toe) helped me a lot.

Still really latching onto the idea actually....it's one of the things I've really been missing.

But ya I've realized it's the only way I've been able to not hook it with TwistAway and my driver.

Pretty obvious now but I needed to fix some things before it worked in my real swing. (not a Never Slice Again-type pattern)

OK so heres what I learned, I went to the range and was hitting the driver straighter today with a little draw (getting the thumb under the shaft more, thanks brian) Sometimes too much draw.

I've been working on my neutral grip and Mid Body hands as well, and it finally came to me that with Mid Body hands the Club Face is closed a bit especially with the driver, I think I was adjusting my hands after the fact until I read in another post about how the club is closed with mid body hands. Its funny to look at this driver position but I like the results. Guess my only question now is, how do I put less draw or maybe a little fade onto my drive?

Thanks

Great Question....

How to go from a "Never Slice Again" Pattern Draw to a Fade with a Driver (on purpose)...

1. Aim 20 yards left. (Yes, twenty)

2. Make the "Adjusted Backswing," the one with a more left thumb under position at the top.

3. Do not use the "Arm Throw" in the regular "NSA" Pattern, feel as though your body just UNWINDS and carries the arms as is—left arm across the chest—through the ball.

4. Make sure your BELT BUCKLE stays in FRONT of your hands.

5. Feel SLIGHTLY more like your are "Skipping Rocks"

That oughta do it. ;)

I noticed the same things happened, more snapping hooks with my driver while doing NSA pattern. Don't get that with irons though. Why is that?

The NSA pattern is great it teaches you to not slice it, but as you get better you will hook it off the earth and make adjustments to not hook it. You end up with a pattern that YOU can depend on. Basically how every great ball striker learned to do it.

The thing with NSA is the head start you are getting with a correct pivot and a FLW.

The NSA pattern is how I practice axis tilt and lag production, because to not hook it to the left Barrack Obama your going to have to have the two preceding ingredients.

I do a move very similar to what brian calls twistaway, if not really similar, then the exact same motion. what I have found for me, if I bend the right wrist back to flatten the left wrist, I hit a ton of pulls or huge draws, while not having the best power. IF, I focus on flattening my left wrist through the muscles in the left arm and having that bend the right wrist then all those problems are gone, ball goes farther, more compression, much straighter, and I dont come over the top. One motion, for me this motion, done incorrectly can break my swing or make my swing, with all other swing thoughts being equal.

Thanks, I went out and played this morning and took your advice, I just concentrated on my pivot and I hit a nice contrallable draw maybe 5-10 yards of draw I can live with that :D. Of course now that my driver is back on track my short game was horrible, at least I have something new to work on this week :S

Most people don't use the type of "neutral" grip that Brian wants you to use with the twistaway. Most people "cheat" on the side of slightly stronger.

If i set you up with a proper neutral grip and gave you the NSA pattern you really shouldn't hook it.

I can do the manzella neutral grip with most of my irons, it seems with the driver and probably my fairway woods the grip just seems to be a little stronger, not sure why that is, maybe its an illusion when I am looking at the grip on the longer clubs it definitely does not feel different but it looks different.

Probably because it "feels weird" having that weak a grip with a driver and having that "feeling" of it being so shut on the downswing.

However i can fade it with the right grip and the NSA pattern.
