Twistaway

I have viewed NSA a couple of times now and I am trying to use the twistaway. I am able to keep a flat left wrist using the "credit card" visual shown in the video, however I am having 2 major problems:

1. My right arm opens during the takeaway

2. The twistaway is causing me to come OTT

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Hi;

I am new to this method too but I had the same problems. But today I was hitting the ball better than ever.

I found that if I concentrate on twisting away on the up then on the down swing trying to drive the butt of the handle into the ball it totally stopped me coming OTT.

Might help you, but someone more experienced may help more..

"Over the Top" of what?

I have viewed NSA a couple of times now and I am trying to use the twistaway. I am able to keep a flat left wrist using the "credit card" visual shown in the video, however I am having 2 major problems:

Let's start with #2.

"Over the Top" is a term that is used all of the time, but never really explained.

I like to ask—"Over the Top" of what?

Almost all good players make a downswing that is at least partially OVER their backswing clubhead path.

Bobby Jones, Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer are obvious examples. Craig Parry is more obvious.

Bad players, most of whom have very open clubfaces, come "Over the Top" out of self defense. They are simply trying SOMETHING, anything, to get the ball to start and finish further to the left.

Dome correctly, the "twistaway" is simply a FEELING that a golfer gets when they are putting their clubfaces less open during the swing.

Obviously, you can actually TWIST THE CLUBFACE too far. But, believe it or not, that is not what most people do that would make them think that they are "coming over the top." What is most likely happening is that you are hitting a PULL-HOOK because you either were "coming over the top" before—but it was masked by the open clubface, or (or also) you had clubhead throwaway (the clubhead passing the hands prior to impact), and NOW the "twistaway" has you hitting a pull-hook.

Just remember to do the following three things at impact:

1. Right Shoulder lower that the left, by way of your tailbone being forward of your neckbone.
2. Belt buckle pointing left of your hands.
3. Hands ahead of clubhead.

"Like dragging a wet mop down a water slide." ;)
