Ugh..progress is hard to come by

Last two rounds were 110 and 103 (today). I wouldn't say either course is overly challenging and the weather was pleasant the last 2 times I played.

Since seeing Brian and Damon Lucas some weeks ago, I have been able to drive the ball a lot better. I know I need a new driver since I am playing with an old Calloway S2H2 driver and 3W. So a newer, and better, driver would probably add another 10+ yards off the tee.

My strength, traditionally, as been my short irons. Why? Because when I practice, I normally just hit 7-9 iron. As a result of that, the skill with the longer clubs has been rather lackluster. That said, since I am playing more, I hit way more driver/3W/5W and with Brian's help we flattened out the swing some and that area has improved quite a bit.

The short iron play has flat out sucked lately. This is extremely frustrating. Even on short par 3s, I really have a hard time making good contact. Lately, I've been blocking a lot of shots to the right and on occasion, I might really pull the ball to the left.

Yeah, I know, I probably need another lesson. Sigh...

this is so irritating!!!

End of rant.

Been there, done that. I feel your pain. Shot my first ever round in the 70's last Thursday (77) and thought that I was getting there, only to shoot a 93 yesterday. That's golf. Hang in there.

I can say the same thing...

Ups and downs.....more ups though. One thing....never arrive! Once you think you have it down (have arrived), you start to suck.

Really, hang in there. I am a year removed from my first lessons with Briman. I can honestly say I am finally starting to get some of the core stuff down. I am a beginner. For someone that's been playing a long time, I'm sure the progress is quicker. It has been worth it as far as I am concerned.

I feel your pain. This weekend has been my club championship. Last year I won the 1st flight, so I am in the Championship flight.

All week I have been absolutely STRIPING it, played on Tues. and Thurs. and shot 73 & 74.

Yesterday, I tee it up, full of confidence, only to limp around the course and embarrass myself with an 87, 1 triple and 2 doubles and a host of bogeys, because I couldn't hit the tee ball. Everything I thought I had fixed with Brian, crept back into my game. Kept pulling everything off the tee.

Funny thing is, I was hitting it great on the range before my round and after the round I went back to the range to work on things and I literally did not miss a shot for 30 minutes.

Frustrating.

problem is my course was super tight. Contrary to above opinion it is damn hard to play a pull hook on a very tight course. I can play a push all day, but not a pull hook.

I was "impaling" my self with the shaft, coupled with some nerves and you got a problem

Did a little better today and shot 80. Was 1 over through 12, and caught some bad breaks, played the last 3 holes in 5 over, just didn't finish well. Very disappointed in my performance this weekend.

Pull hook isn't a pull there feller; didn't mention the "hook" part ;).

If you're hitting pull hooks, then aim waaaaaaaaaaay right and play the pull hook. One time i had to play a 30 yard fade.

I agree that playing a pull isn't all that easy, unless your swing is just a little off and the pull is 20-30 yards. My stock shot is a draw, but when I start pulling, sometimes my pulls can be 40-50 yards off. Then sure enough, I start aiming that far right to play it, and then I will bust one straight that ends up in trouble right. I shoot in the high 70's to low 80's, so I am a decent player, but when I start pulling it, I pull it bad. So I agree with the idea of playing whatever shot you have for that day, but what are some thoughts to help reduce the severity of the pull or the hook.
Thanks.

I am in the same boat as obsessed. allmost all my misses are pulls or pulls with a draw. my most consistant shot is from the left greenside bunker or over it. I have all the videos, but must be missing something. Any references or thread recomendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
