Unable to keep consistant

Hi, if you live in or around Louisville, you've heard of the Cardinal Club, well, I went out there today to play 18, and I might hit a really good drive one shot, then hit maybe two or three yards w/ 4 iron the next shot, the slope/rating is 71.6 / 130 respectively, but I can't keep a good round going, as in hit a nice shot every time. Anyone know how I can fix this?

First, you won't EVER hit a good shot every time. But, what you need to do is learn to hit the ball fairly solid on near every shot.

Focus on feeling the club. You are probably losing sense of it somewhere in your swing. You don't want any "blind spots" during your swing. Keep a sense of the club the whole time.

Second, work on keep a good posture throughout the swing. Don't dip or pull up your spine angle and don't "jump" out of the shot with your legs trying to lift the ball or get more power into the shot.

gdawg46: benhogan54 gives good word, however, we don't have enough info to know if what you are dealing with is "mechanical" (as in golf swing) or "mental" (as in your thinking process).

How long have you been playing? What is your usual experience with a new course (if this is true of the Cardinal)? What is your handicap against your local course rating? Have you been taking instruction recently? What is your practice pattern? When you play at your home course, is there a pattern to your scoring (several good and an occasional bad, etc)? There may be other things involved, but that would be a start.

You WILL find some help here.

Ok, lets see here.

This isn't going to sound good, and it's going to make me feel like an idiot.

How long have I been playing? Around 3 years, maybe, not exactly sure...
Usual experience? Well, normally I am pretty good when I play a new course (and this is true of the Cardinal Club.)
Handicap? Don't know yet, haven't started posting them.
Instruction? I'm not sure when last time I took instruction was, but I'm thinking of taking lessons again.
Practice? I play alot, but I don't really go out and just hit balls...
Home course? Usually, on the first three holes, the ones I know best, they are Par 4,3,5 I'll usually get 6,6,8 respectively.
