Under Plane question

I feel and have been told that I swing under plane. I understand it for the most part, but don't understand why I do it, or how to fix it. I read all about making sure i have axis tilt. Can this cause my right shoulder just to dip down and cause swinging under plane?
thanks

It's very bad to steal Jobu's rum

and to swing under plane too much.

Swinging under plane leads to draws that lead to big hooks, that can lead to fat shots, heel shots and shanks, if it gets bad enough. (trust me)

Have you seen Never Hook Again? Brian shows, in that video, how and why you do it and how to fix.

Amen to that ! I've come through this hell also - but in the following order when trying to solve the problem: draws, hooks, heel shots, shanks, fat shots.
Now my divots are curving left (great !) and the trajectory is a slight fade in the end (great !). The only thing I am struggling often with are fat shots - but I believe it is associated with a bit too much CoG of the body shift during downswing...prolly due to lack of flexibility.

Really, golfers are often not aware what bad things may swinging under plane cause...

Cheers

9 years ago when I started teaching myself, I read about the magic move, and about "put your right elbow in your pocket" and "first move down is to drop your hands into the slot" and all that other garbage.

Good grief, that was poison for me.

It was poison for many..... A popular idea that has led to a lot golfers dunking the club below plane is the idea to shift the plane angle down to the hip or elbow angle before an opening of the body occurs - I use the airplane drill to help students fix this

Is Moe underplane on the backswing?

Is Moe underplane on the backswing?

The problem referenced in this thread is being underplane on the downswing. Moe Norman got on plane at the transition even though he took it back inside. It doesn't matter what plane you are on in the backswing as long as you can get on plane in the downswing.

Yikes!!!!

In my opinion—stated on this forum 100 times—you SHOULD NOT BE "on plane" in the backswing, unless:

1. You are using a "delayed pivot," where, basically, you are turning later as the pivot "waits" for the arms.

2. You are trying to hit a fade or "hold shot."

or

3. It just works for you.

I wish this thread was made a little earlier, I took the poison pill a couple weeks ago and I'm trying desperately to undo the damage.

I'll always go back to something Brian said to me that really stuck ( i was underplane ). " No axis tilt till after sit down".- Manzella
-or- "counter fall to pull hands away from the wall, not down"

these are good thoughts, but where in the downswing should axis tilt begin? I often tilt too soon, resulting in severe underplane action. Too late or not at all, roundhouse with the shoulders. Is squat then tilt a good thought to cure this?

If you are at the correct position on the top then try to keep base of your neck in the same place in space... then hip bump - beginning of the downswing will take care of the axis tilt - just don't move your top toward the target...
my guess...
