Under Plane

I feel that the description of an under plane action that Jim gave in another thread fits me, so how do I go about fixing this?

Jim said 'swing way left' but a more technical answer may help me understand better. Also, what causes this under pane stuff in the first place? It seems I've been stuck with this hook/block action for years and years and years...

What I want to work towards is getting my old power fade back.

Thanks

Have you seen Brian's Never Hook Again video?

Jim, I have not seen Never Hook Again. Truth is I never considered myself a hooker even if the ball did bend left. Last time I played I was hitting what looked like a nice strong draw with the driver, but I couldn't aim it and it always ended in the left rough. Aiming down the right side of the fairway brought out the block or a real hard OOB type hook.

Watch NHA...

I've fallen into your mentioned results since moving from a slicer. I now use the NHA pattern with the best results.

I think it's you ticket!

The title is a bit misleading because even though you may not hook the ball a ton you are doing what that video addresses which is a very inside/out underplane downswing.

Protag?

Never Hook Again's info, could just be called "Stop getting Stuck," or "Down Plane, not UNDER Plane," "Your clubface is making you swing to the right of Rush Limbaugh" let's fix it.

I'll answer more in detail later.

Have you ever tried to hit an intentional slice around a tree, only to have the ball go straight? You need some of that feel in your swing.

Actually, I find it hard to imagine how to hit a slice, but if I try an intentional draw it will start right and fade, of course.

Brian, If this is about my clubface then that is something I can understand.

BTW, I've had many lessons with instructors who have guys 'on tour' and they never mentioned clubface once and nothing they said ever worked.

Been there

My natural tendency is also under plane. Brian has suggested hitting drivers off the deck to ingrain the feel of an on plane swing. It works for me, but I have to "feel" a slight outside-in motion to make contact. Of course, I tend to swing too inside-out, so the correct swing feels "outside-in" to me.BTW, Vijay hits a bunch of drivers off the deck during practice. I saw this firsthand at 2005 US Open. He was hitting his driver off a tee, but as soon as he hit his water bottle, he hit 4 or 5 off the deck before he re-teed his driver.
