upright to flatter swing

I have tried everything, more forearm turn, flatter shoulder turn, just can't get the leftarm above the right shoulder, it is atleast it is in between the ear and the shoulder. I would love to get flatter. TIM

At times I get too steep, I am trying to be simple as possible. The more it seems like I am on plan the less manipulationI need. TIM

NO, I think the left arm lifts instead of glueing to my chest. there always seems to be a lift at the top insteads of a finish turn . I am a pretty consistant plus but this year I seem to hit more fades instead of draws and I am a draw player, look right bring it back, today I was 66 but hit fades thankfully an open to the right course, I know what people say you should be happy but I know that at certain times we all have a go to shot or a more comfortable shot. We had a shot gun start this morning due to a big tourny this afternoon, the last hole for me a straight narrow par 5 , hit the fairway and it's an easy birdie, amed right center and faded it , no shot made par. not a huge issue but would like a little help, TIM

I think a video would be helpful.Descriptions of golf swings can be inaccurate and/or misinterpreted.

It sounds like your problem is not necessarily a steep backswing but an arm lift to complete the backswing. This could happen if you're flat or steep.

Yup,Watson is an example of a steep backswing together with an arm lift. You are probably more likely to lift the arms with a steep backswing but not always the case.

Pre Butch Tiger is a good example of a flat backswing with an arm lift as well.

A steep backswing with an arm lift does not necessarily mean you will be a fader. It depends on what you do on the downswing.

Here is Ryan Moore hitting a draw.

Tim,

Have you tried a left arm "pec grab" at address...ie. softly locking your upper left arm to your chest?....

All you need to do then is pivot, or "upper back-to-target"..and your hands will go around and up automatically, maintaining the left arm-shoulderline position, flatter than you are now.....

If you are steep on the backswing, then

1) begin the downswing with a lower body turn, you might be outside-in

or, if you

2) begin the downswing with a drop of the arms, then lower body turn you maintain inside-out.

to my thinking sequence matters.

Could this #2 manuver cause bps? I tried this tech a few weeks ago to try and eliminate the pulls and it worked for a while. Now I'm hitting 15-20 yd draws. Too much drop?

Appreciate that you want to get better, but you might consider the possibility that changing your swing might make your handicap worse. You shot a 66 for god's sake!

Watch the tour. They hit some bad shots. Also the guys they chose to show, are in contention. Some very high percentage never make it to the screen during a given tournment. Logically, those invisible players are hitting even more bad shots.

Just a sort of, I read it, here is my impression type of post.

I tried swinging like Ryan Moore for a few rounds and practice sessions. Boy was that interesting. That huge loop makes for a lot of speed... but also a lot of snap hooks! Fun to try, but I couldn't make it consistent (then again, not the best idea for someone like me who gets stuck on the downswing and whips the club from in-out).

Lots of players have used the idea of "standing the club up" in the backswing, which gives you the Tom Watson / Nicklaus vertical lift.

Nothing wrong with it!

If I shot 66 everytime out , but golf does not work like that. Golf is a game of costant improvement atleast for the competative type. Some are happy with shooting 85 some 75 some 68 , this is there personalities. Don't change incase you can't get it back. I play for t-shirts basically, it is not my living so I can change as much as I like. I love trying new stuff. I think if I shot 80 everyday I would try a new sport it is the way I am built.
some guys are the same with equipment, Vinny Giles with a very outdated gbb2, is this wrong absolutley not , it probabaly just the way he is , don't change if it is not broken, me I could care less if it wasn't broken, play around if you find something fine if not go back.
For me with very minimal time I want to try and make things simple, does not always work but atleast something to strive for. Btw I have probably shot 66ten times this year with different moves, different putters some different grips who cares the game is meant to be fun !!!
