Vertical left arm- BManz question

All things being equal - on the downswing, if the left arm swings out further than vertical, does that force the left wrist to twist or downarch AND the left wrist to uncock more for a square hit? As opposes to an "in" left arm (sergio) requiring maintenance of left wrist cock and more rotation of left arm wedge?
