Our good friend Stewart couldn't figure out why i said he had a strong grip because he felt it was very neutral.

I saw almost the entire logo on his club and the hand looked very turned.

-------

Today he sent me a video of his grip that was up close and perfectly centered. What happened?

It was about as neutral as could be and quite good. So camera angles can play tricks on your eyes and i talked with Stewart for a bit and gave him some things to think about.

But i'll admit that the pics played tricks on my eyes but i straightened it out.

:)

Hey Jim... not that I doubt your abilities in any way... but if you look carefully at his down the line view just before he reaches the top of his backswing, you can quite clearly see the clubface is closed relative to his forearm. He does have a strong grip at least during that swing he posted.

I know students will often take a grip to start, then regrip just before they actually swing. So we think they make a good grip.. only to discover its bad during the swing. You know this just as well as I do I'm sure. I've seen it just from the time someone grips it in the air to the time they set the club down it will change. To me this happens most often because they take a soft grip at first, then they tighten up their grip which wraps their hands a bit more on the club and thus makes it stronger. They're gripping it in the fingertips at first, but then when they tighten up their grip their left gets stronger and their right gets weaker.

That very well could be, but the video that i have of his grip that he takes is extremely neutral. Now i have had people who re-grip and they make it stronger, happens a lot.

But to go from hogan neutral to couples strong is a mighty jump

Not unheard of by any means.

I just again would point to just before the top of his backswing. Even in the pictures brian just now posted face on. You can see a cup in his left hand, but the clubface is facing much more toward the sky.
