Panasonic Digital Camcorder PV-GS19 is under $300 works great.
Shutter speeds to 1/6000, firewall connection. Compact size and lightweight.
I bought the Ulead software/cable for under $50 and it works great with Windows XP.
You can control the camera via your laptop PC.
Downloaded the free VH1 home edition. Allows you to draw lines, cirlces etc.on your captured video.

Panasonic seem to have the best Shutter Speeds dollar for dollar, so in theory you would think these would be the best buy if you're into sport?

I bought the JVC GR-D295U and have been very happy with it. I think it can shoot at 1/4000th which is plenty fast for swings (no blurring). I download the video into the computer using V1 software.

Beware of JVC - I had one and it crashed. Check herehttp://jvc-class-action.blogspot.com/
or search JVC E04

Ted Fort had a nice Samsung with the monitor display on the outside for playback. I don't know what the model was. And he uses a fisheye lens attachment so he can have the camera close by as he teaches. No sauntering from the student every few minutes. It looked great on the laptop, well, as long as the swing looked good. hahaha

I have a Canon GL-2 but that is a lot of camera just for swings.

I asked this same question yesterday on a digital photography forum.

The sugestion was that unless you are prepared to spend serious money, a miniDV camcorder will do the job.

Panasonic seem to be highly regarded and there are are loads of good models in the NVGS range. At the cheaper end, the Panasonic NVGS17B still has a shutter speeds up to 1/8000.

Hope this helps.

The Olympus E-100 RS can be had on eBay for a couple hundred. Shutter speed 1/10000, pre-capture, 10x optical zoom and image stabilizer. You could probably get Tiger Woods with that one.

Is that a camera or camcorder?
