I figure I'd bust out the week 5 update for all those that are following...
Week 5 sucked. Didn't get in much practice this week with the swing. I did however get 4 or 5 hours of putting in this week so that was a plus. Also got in two rounds this week.
Both rounds were with higher handicap players who have recently started playing. Most of my playing partners this week shot in the 100's-110's. Makes it kind of difficult to get something going when you're waiting for them to take 4+ strokes to get to the green on each hole. No worries, I used to do that too but the most important thing is that I got to play with friends who have been bitten by golf bug...
Shot a 89 the first day on a course I had never played before. Actually nobody in our group had played this course before. Drove a couple of balls into the water but putted well. All in all okay round, I had the best round of my 4some and was 8 strokes a head of the next person...
The round today was a 91. Not a great round in the end but I had a good round going until the 9th hole where I hit my drive into the water, flew the green on my approach and finally finished with a triple. The golf course was backed up and this jerkhole pulled up on us on #10 and said we were playing too slow (even though there was a group on the green in front of us and another group on waiting on the 11th T-box.) Then proceeded to run his mouth. We drove off and let his comments fall on death ears. He then hit into us and we weren't so nice with our words when he got up to us. After a nice verbal exchange and an almost 4-on-1 beat down the guy shut his mouth and proceeded to tell us he was sorry and didn't want any trouble. Though nothing physical happened, my mind was wrecked and couldn't refocus on golf. I pretty much played the backside (the easier side) with doubles and bogeys for a +12 with 3 pars. I really have a short temper and once I get spun up, it's very hard for me to let things go. Though that guy got me spun up, it was my temper and inability to let things go that actually wrecked that round.
This week summary: the putting was much better this week. The driving was pretty dang good. I'm averaging about 250yds which isn't bad considering I'm hitting an 11.5* driver. Irons are okay, not as consist ant as I'd like but they are definitely playable. Wedges are bad. Looks like whack a mole is back, I whacked the driver and the putting and the stupid wedge mole popped his head back up... Oh well just more things to work on.
There was a real reason to celebrate this week and it wasn't golf related. I meet my goal of loosing 20lbs. Aug 1st I was 258lbs. Yesterday after a month of strict diet and lots of physical activity, I was down to 238lbs!!! That was 2" off my midsection. Considering I've been doing a LOT of working out and I lost 20lbs in a month, I can't get too mad about my golf swing getting out of whack. 20lbs is enough to throw off anyone's balance and not to mention the strength I'm picking up. The good thing is, I only plan to lose 10lbs over the next 2 months so I should be able to find my swing and keep it. I imagine that after my weight stabilizes my swing should get a LOT more consistent.
Going to try and see Brian again at the end of the month so things should be really good in Sept. Because of that, this will probably be my last update for awhile. Thanks for all the support and for reading!
