Weight shift to the left prior to the swing?

I have a question about pre-setting some of your weight onto the left (front) foot prior to the swing. Are there any advantages and/or disadvantages to making this shift, and getting into a p1 position similar to Zach Johnson. I seem to hit the ball much better when I make this adjustment.

Sometimes I'll do that if I'm going to hit it low.

And almost always with "stock" wedge shots and pitch/chip shots.

If you do that, do also do a forward press to intiate the swing? Just wondered, because I am trying to eliminate the forward press because I think it introduces some sway, that I don't need. Maybe if I think "pre-set weight forward, that would help!

Myself, I don't.

I just lean my body towards the target and onto my lead foot.........the shaft leans forward with it. But I don't add any independent forward press of the hands.

Yeah, There is a slight natural forward press, but not forced.

I also have a tendency of swaying, and this move does seem to help eliminate that

I also only do this for irons and wedges.

Yes, I think "forward press" normally relates to the hand press, not a weight shift. I seem to do both, and it has become ingrained.
