Normal clubface rotation to the follow-through (ala Horizontal Hinging).
WAIT, WAIT, I THOUGHT YOU TAUGHT THE VERY "UN-ORTHODOX" AND EXTRA PERVERTED CLUBFACE TO THE GROUND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, FOLLOWED UP BY "WEDDING RING UP."
In a word.....no.
Ben actually POSES most of his students in an ANGLED HINGE-like position in the follow-through, then goes to near "wedding ring" up.
Ben swing, which is one taken by our own Mike Finney, has been picked apart on the "Star Wars Golf" site, for having the face at the ground early.
Watching the video, it appears if the contact was on the heel, making this rotation happen early. Ben himself has told me he doesn't like his through the ball motion very much on full-swings. He assures me, it was different when he was younger.
In my opinion, guys with strong grips like Ben and Lynn, have a tendency to bend the left wrist slightly through impact, as well as their left arms.
With my more neutral grip, I am able to have "The Flattest Left Wrist In Golf."
More importantly, my students learn to get flat sooner with my "Manzella/Ben Hogan Neutral" grip then they did for the YEARS I taught a stronger one.
My teaching preferences, like working TOWARD "Wedding ring up," a Neutral Grip, No over roll if you DON'T NEED IT!, and finishing with the left thumb and elbow "under' at the finish, produces the MOST ORTHODOX LOOKING SWINGS IN GOLF.
Now, let me go on record as saying that I am ALL FOR UN-ORTHODOX looking swings, I play better with one.
No golf teacher in America with a last name that doesn't start with "Kuy" has an more UN-ORTHODOX looking swing than Ted Fort. But Ted is a fine player, and makes that strange looking address position work FOR him, as he plays better than he did working on positions.
I teach golfers to control the three PARTS of the clubs using the ENGLISH LANGUAGE version of Homer's 3 imperatives:
• The Flat left wrist and whole left arm controlling the clubface.
• The Right Forefinger SENSING the lagging sweetspot and aiming it at the ball.
• Having the clubhead DRAW a straight plane line
Got it?
