well the title of the video gives a clue...........held off 5 iron ..........so he was trying to cut it

Why would he try to cut it when all the trouble is on the side he is cutting it into? The ball flew all the way down the right side in any event.

He was just holding off a little rather than giving it the full treatment.

From the horse's mouth

I guess its because Tiger and Phil get the most coverage, but sometimes I see both finish their swings with a high hands finish. The club is usually just past vertical and does not wrap around their bodies. What type of shot are they attempting with this finish? Here is an example of what I;m talking about.

From "Tee it up with Tiger"

“I learnt from my father and again, imagine trying to teach a three or four year old how to hit the ball low or how to hit the ball high. It’s hard to explain that to them so he’d (Tiger’s father) always say ‘make the same backswing and then either finish up at your ribs, at your shoulder or above your head’ and that would determine the height of my golf shot.
So if I was to hit a nice little low one, I’d finish up rib high. Hit another pretty much normal I’d finish up around my shoulders. If I wanted to hit a high ball I’d finish up above my head and that’s how I learnt.”
“For me I go back to these little keys. Rib high, shoulder high, above the head to work on my trajectories. I know it sounds so simple but when you are under pressure that’s what you relate back to. That’s what you go back to. You go back to things that are easy or things that are natural or innate.”
