What Gets to the "top" first?

I would say there are 2 schools of thought here.

1. Clubhead moves first and all the rest of the body reacts to the "pull" of the club. The club / hands arrive at the "top' / end" at the same time the body finishes the pivot.

2. Pivot powered backswing - the club is slung into motion by the motion of the pivot (lagging clubhead) and the pivot completes before the hands/club assembly reaches the 'top / end'. One would have to wait and then 'catch' the hands/club assembly with the beginning of the downswing motion.

Comparing the 2, is there any advantage of one over the other for distance or accuracy?

At what point if you use #2 does it become difficult to hit little chips and pitches?

Thanks - Bruce

There is also the player who starts the swing with the arms and the body follows, but the body finishes before the arms. You see him quite often on the PGA Tour!

I can't see any problems with any of the styles, except I probably wouldn't use #2 for chips, maybe pitches too.

I feel like my pivot provides the motor to get to the top, but my hands are always monitored.

For me, the pivot powered backswing just provides more umph!! Starting the swing with my hands is viable for me when I set the FLW BRW and pivot from there.

Pivoted Powered is LONGER because—quite simply—you can STRESS THE CLUBSHAFT more that way

As soon as you make a swing that is LESS THAN FULL, you need something else to HALT the backswing.

Best way is with the feet.

Brian - thanks for the reply.

I would like to think that I would start all downswing motions from the feet, unless there is zero pivot (weight already set left).

Can you have a pivot powered backswing that is still a hands controlled pivot (the pivot takes your hands to where you intend them to go)?

Would you use a pivot powered backswing for a shot where the shaft just gets to parallel with the ground and then stop it with the feet (pressure moving down onto the left foot)? Would you sense a small amount of float loading with this procedure?

Enjoyed your live chat forum the other nite.
