Tiger's been working hard, took a big step forward winning at Bay Hill but took a step back today. He was wound so tight today I'm surprised he didn't react even more boorishly on the back.
I wish I could have heard what Jimenez told him on 18--looked like some genuine words of encouragement that Tiger appreciated.
If I were Tiger, I would have put myself out there, asked Miguel if he had any plans for the night, and if not, grab a steak, cigar, and a few bottles of red and to just talk about life and about Miguel's round and his swing keys/feels. It was unbelievable to see the contrast between these two the last couple of days. Jimenez looks so comfortable in his skin and yet still focused and engaged on the shot at hand. Tiger was wound way too tight. And how about the difference in physique? I wonder if it burns Tiger that a smoker with a huge gut beat his brains by 6 shots. If you've read "Big Miss" and remember Haney's discussion about Tiger being intrigued by O'Meara's ability to play those non-overly spinny, lowish-soft draws--yeah, I think the last two days was that times 130 something Miguel's practice swings are also something I would study-no over exaggerations, just something to stretch out the muscles. Tiger's "carry" move isn't helping him avoid the pulls. Tiger could learn from Miguel the right way to swing left.
With your practice swing, Tiger, try to just create some rhythm and quit tugging!
Tiger hits the ball "solid" now, but "solid" doesn't necessarily get the ball close. I think he's lost his ability to shape the ball as much as he used to with Haney and his iron game shows it--worse distance control and a harder time getting at different flags. I'm sure he can zero-out about a million balls in a row on Trackman but that ain't golf and at Augusta, it's definitely not enough.
