What if??

What if Homer had put out a traditional instruction book based on his "findings" (Hardy has one and two plane) Homer could have hitting and swinging. Reccomended patterns with a list of options ( I know not exactly right, but you get the gist) Would it have the following it has now, or would it be just another text. Do you think that the fact its written the way it is appeals to some people whether they understand it or not, because some people are under the impression that if something is that complex (for lack of a better word) it is better.
The greats achieved all imperatives without the book. Good teachers can teach it without the book.

So if was all the same basic information with a different structure, is it a classic or is it just another book on golf??

"The greats achieved all imperatives without the book."

True but all of them had compensations in their actions.

Homer's text was designed to be all encompassing. In 40 years years of research and he experimented with every possible move into the ball. Cataloqued neatly into "The golfing Machine". Personally I am in pursuit of the uncompensated swing.

Good teachers can teach it without the book.

The point is they may be able to teach their IT, but not any of the other thousands of effective patterns. They talk about the golf swing, as though there is only a single valid one.

There are lots of good teachers who can teach what ever is needed for that particular student to play their best without teaching a method or model swing. A lot of good teachers can see that Joe Bob needs more extensor action without knowing what extensor action is "by the book" . I'm asking could the book have been put together as a true manual to golf with the various options and components (I realize there are thoudsands of component possibilities) or is it strictly an encyclopedia of golf components designed to provide a common vocabulary for teachers to identify and discuss and as such would be of little value to the player himself without direct AI interaction to properly guide them. Is the mystery in the complexity??

I know what you're saying. My feeling is that it would have turned out to be a wonderful instruction book, a huge hit for awhile, but wouldn't have the longevity or the cult following that it does in it's present form. (...and this from someone who does not own, nor plans on owning it)
