What is it with lefties

I know this is a bit of a generalization, but what is it with lefties that they have such natural swings: Mickelson, Bubba, Flesh, Charles....

Speaking as a left-handed person, I can fully assure you that we possess more natural talent in every aspect of lives. :D Seriously though... I just think you are seeing more talented left handed golfers these days because first of all left-handed equipment is readily available when it didn't used to be. Also, left-handed people used to be forced into writing and doing other activities right-handed because they thought left-handedness was the spawn of the devil. Or maybe it could just have something to do with the way that us lefties use our brains. We use the right side more whereas a righty generall uses the left side more. Left side of the brain is logical and right side is creative.

ffejeff may be on to something with the devil spawn thing.

The word "sinister" comes from a root word that means "left" or "left handed".

Hmmmm....

Maybe it's a conspiracy to drive us right handed swing junkies crazy...

As a kid, thought it must be cool to be a lefty. The ones I knew always seemed to do things their own way. Maybe I was right about that individuality and golf is no different. Or maybe I was just a crazy kid who was just seeing things... :)

As a lefty I do not know what to make of the "natural swing" comment. On one hand it seems like a compliment. On the other hand it makes me wonder if you are really seeing the swing or it is just that for some reason it is difficult to critique a swing from the opposite side. I know that I have a little bit of a tough time analyzing right handed swings without turning them around in my mind.

Lefties also grow up in a generally right handed world. Maybe we are just wired differently.

Anyone else think that it might be a bit easier for some to swing from the unnatrual side? I know that my backhand in tennis is way more consistent (and powerful, save the one random shot in 100) than my forehand. Hogan, Mickelson, Kobylinski. Dominant arm pulling? Any ideas?

I'm left handed and play right handed.

I've tried swinging left handed, but my left handed swing is pretty pathetic because my lead (right) side is too weak and uncoordinated. Even though I might be able to apply a little more force with the left (trailing) hand through impact.

I am betting if you took a mirror and watched some lefties swings it would be be easier to pick out the bad stuff. I know sometimes when I pull into the parking lot at the course I will sit in my truck and watch my friends chipping and putting in the rear view mirror for a second because it is interesting to me to see what their swings look like left-handed.

LOL...the reason i golf righty is because i was taught to swing righty in baseball. Eventually learned to switch hit but it felt horrible and un-natural however the ball went A LOT further. I ended up playing hockey lefty too and when i got into golf i tried lefty but felt as horrible as baseball swing. So i stuck with righty and am sacrificing yards to do so i'd guarantee it.

I second that. I have swung a golf club right-handed before just for fun. I feel like I loose so much power swinging from the other side of the ball.

Would be interesting to teach oneself to play opposite handed. It would take a bit of time. I wonder how the swing would look compared to the other side?

Anyone gone n dun it?

I've thought about it. My pivot looks so much better from the other side it's crazy. But I don't play enough from the right side as it is. I'm can't justify using my playing time (which is like gold to me because of its rarity) trying to learn from the other side.

I'm in the same boat. I get to play twice a month at most. I value that time way to much.

I was a switch hitter in baseball and found that I was more comfortable batting righty, but natrually better batting lefty. I am also right eye dominant, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

I've putted lefty before, even had the Bullseye in high school and did a Notah impersonation. Maybe I'll get a wedge and start learning to chip with it.
