What is Rory Sabbatini's problem?

He withdrew rather suspiciously from the final round of the Target World Challenge. His agent said he had shin splints but obviously they weren't bothering him enough to keep him from going on vacation to Hawaii.

In my opinion he is a loud, braggadocio who seems hell bent on destroying what little good will he has among the fans and his fellow players.

For what it is worth. He seemed jovial and friendly on the range both with players and the crowd on Saturday before the round. In his round Saturday paired with Monty they were on the 17th green in 3 hours. They both looked beat... that course is super hilly and a tough walk.

We may not ever hear about it, but I would bet Tiger will do everything in his power to make his tour life as difficult as possible.

I gotta admit it's fishy.....but unless there is more than mere suspicion, to me, we can speculate on the shins all we want........but all it really is is speculation.

I ain’t gonna draw conclusions from that. At least not strong ones.

To me- HYPE.

As for all this stuff about Rory.....a lot of it's gotta to be over-hyped if you ask me........

You have to realize that 1. the media likes to sensationalize so they have more interesting media to present to the public…and 2. Tiger, justified or not, very well could deliberately use this as an oppourtunity to put some heat on Rory. (he did make some comments when asked)

And I don’t mean to be a “conspiracy theorist” or w/e label you want to slap on but hey- I think it’s a pretty strong possibility. (with regards to the above comment on Tiger)

...

And I’ve been defending Sabbatini a lot lately when these topics come up…......but in all fairness I viewed it the same way when Tiger withdrew from that (those?) tourney(s) earlier this year for being too tired.

HYPE. (mostly)

I understand that you need to be respectful and the fans deserve a show and etc. etc. etc….

But the way I see it- like it or not, it’s the player’s life and choice in the end. And that goes for anyone.

But part of that players' choice is understanding the consequences and taking responsibility for his actions. On our local tour, if you DNF out of a tournament without proper cause (like in Rory's case, since he was obviously lying) you will not play in another event on that Tour in the year.

Somebody ought to remind Mssr Sabatini that he is in a highly priviledged and highly paid position and that is due solely to the golf-loving public.
Therefore, when he walks off the course in a fit of pique, he is not only insulting Tiger/organiser, he is mainly insulting us..
Yes, we pay out money to watch the likes of Tiget have great rounds, but we also like to witness the other side of the coin too, without the player losing his backbone and walking out....

The funniest thing for me is that if Sabbatini had done the same classless act to e.g. Mickelson or Furyk barely noone would have paid attention to it.

Cheers

Mickelson and Furyk aren't in the same class as Mr. Woods.

Admittedly, when Tiger's name is attached to any story, it gets more press.
However, I really think this is more about Rory being the thoughtless ingrate (once again), rather than it being Tigers' tournament.

I read a magazine article some time ago, where an informal poll of pro golfers had his name at the top of the "least favorite playing partner" list.

I think the guy has a tendency to be a bit of an ass, and the golf world knows it.

Only because they can't as easily afford to donate their 1st place prize money.

They're world class golfers capable of headlining a charitable event anywhere.

MEH

Phil could easily do the same.

Phil and Furyk lack star quality. Tiger has the right amount of standoffishness to make him desirable, a killer record, and a heavy highlight reel.

i know a couple of south africans who were juniors at the same time as rory and in their words "hes a spoilt rich little brat" he did come from a very rich family and used to behave in a spolit way, i.e. getting angry and stroppy when things didnt go his way. i think tiger regards him as more of a nuisance than a threat im not too sure if tiger will go out of his way to make life for him on tour difficult, i think tiger being a smart man would probably give him as little attention as possible- kinda like how he reacts to sergio possibly

Talk about being a brat, Sergio acts like a nine year old. I was watching his post Open screwup interview... just silly.

Bit of a harsh comment there.

How would you have responded to a mike in the face having lost the Open on a lipped out putt?

Yea..................I bet!

With grace!

Better men have faced greater adversity with class and humility.

Anger is ok and expected. Sergio blaming everything and everyone but himself was silly.

I woulda been bitter about that shot that hit the pin and flew away.....but in the end that's golf. He coulda handled it better.

I was bothered much more by when he spat in the cup. Seriously.....WTH was that....??
