I have heard this term used, as "the pivot takes up the slack. Can somebody explain? hanks

Since you move from the bottom up, the arms and hands move last. The slack is "removed" as the arms wait to move as the pivot starts. This is the "position" you see the great ball strikers in as their hips begin to fire and the arms are just shoulder level and parallel to the ground. From here, in TGM terms, the right shoulder tries to blast the left arm off the chest as it heads Down.

Taking out the slack is a good image to prevent Over The Top since the arms “wait” and don’t fire out and over. The arms merely drop vertical- attached to the chest- as the body turns. I think Brian has an instruction article on the vertical arm drop and rotational body turn. Check it out.

I never felt my hip moves first, is this problem? I am a hitter and I need to drive the right arm right away at the top. This is also mentioned in other thread, building a dream swing. If I intentionally use my hip to go first, I will lose control or rythm. Do I need to work on taking the slack?

Is there any slack on the backswing. Now I get how to get slack out of backswing, bump left hip to get left arm pinned to chest, then fire.

You wouldn't want to procedurally try to slide the hips as your first move down- as the ultimate procedure. Sure if your working on fixing a problem in your movement it might be a temporary correction that you would need to train your pivot- but that's not the context of this thread. I just picture guys going out and trying to do this- and that's a big problem- and I would think that most players would understand that's not what they are trying to do.

The BIGGEST cause of slack is the backswing.

To eliminate, try to LEAVE your pivot at address and have your hands go to the same spot they were going previously, DRAGGING the pivot with them (sorta a RFP for dummies).

Good post. When you "have it down" you don't consciously do it with your hips. You direct the swing with your hands and the hips react...if your pivot is trained to do so.
