what was Hogan's trajectory like?

What kind of shot shape did Hogan hit and how did it make contact? e.g., did he line up left with a weak grip and hit push fades from a couple degrees inside?

Or did he line up straight and come slightly over the top with a held off clubface and hit a slight pull fade?

most of the hogan mystique video is from power golf pre-accident where he hit more draws.

According to Cary Middlecoff, from 1946 or so through the accident, ALL Hogan hit were fades. After the accident, he started to move it around, and hit whatever shot shape was called for. See Middlecoff's book "The Golf Swing" for more detail.

More to the point, how do you hit a penetrating fade. I can hit hooks and slices, fades and draws, high balls and low balls, but my fades are always a really high ball. How do you hit the low penetrating fade?

My best method is to hit drivers off the deck (with fades, obviously). Then take that same feel and hit a driver off a tee. Works like a charm.

a penetrating fade is kind of oxymoronic(just like a high draw). if you have the clubface open for a fade you are automatically going to hit a higher shot because of the added loft of the open clubface. use a less lofted club or add more shaft lean at impact.

Very little axis tilt with a whole lot of shaft lean and an arched wrist; it isn't a very difficult shot.

Seve has a good description of this:

Tee the ball slightly lower and slightly more forward of normal (and aim left, of course..:)).
Open the blade slightly
Weaken the left hand grip
And then hit it really hard......:D
