What do you think is the reason this forum exists? Sometimes, I think we get WAAAAY off track.

I see: people advertising methods and teaching systems
Internet BS- (I carry my driver 300 yards! and I'm a plus 3 HDCP)- yeah right you do
Questions about how to execute
Discussions about TOUR pros swings

What is on-topic here?

(My thoughts- this is Brian's online business. It exists for Brian and staff to help people who genuinely want assistance, sell products, promote instruction, & debate and learning .)

I don't see the problem with these 2 if they fit into the context of helping someone improve.

lets say there is a flow to life, a give and get type thing. If you always speak quietly then chances are once people get to now you they will do the same. If you give your time to people they may give their time back to you, when you work you get paid.
brian is a nice guy, but he grades instructors, so he is graded, he says why instructors are wrong, so he is told why he is wrong, he speaks highly of himself to others, so others will speak highly of themselves to him.

If he does not like what he gets sometimes, then maybe looking with an open mind and heart, at what he gives, will enable him to see why he gets what he does.
maybe that is the truth of the matter, maybe not
just some thoughts

That's the reason.

I don't agree Shootin. Imagine you go into a retail store. The guy who runs it is very passionate about what he does. If you find it interesting, maybe you stay and buy something. If you don't agree and find him abrasive, you probably leave and don't shop there. What's the difference?

The Nature of the Beast.

This is the internet.

And, because people can hide behind screennames, and make up personas, you get weird men soliciting what they think are 14-yr old girls, but are male FBI agents, and people calling themselves PlayaBrian and CarollGalleyz and telling my wife to leave me. ;)

What a place!

Every now and then, I wish that 5 or 6 of the folks on this forum at any one time—who are not here to ask me and my staff how to hit a knockdown shot or what I think of the Butch and Philly Mic—would disappear into at least that great mass of folks who do not post on this forum, but just read.

They are here to knock me—no matter how many 100's of golfers come from all over the world and leave saying, "He really is that good." They come to defend "their boy," they come to hawk lessons, hawk websites, and who knows what. Some are just weird folks.

But, you know what?

That's cool with me.

Once apon a time, I left this place unedited. But the ballot box kept getting stuffed by fictious people. So after cleaning that up to some extent, and having to try to keep this thing from getting bogged down in junk, it is what it ismy Golf Academy's home base. Leadbetter has Champion's Gate, I have the Manzella Golf Forum.

So, have at it—and at me, folks. I am greatful for ALL OF IT. It made me smarter, and a better teacher. It made me more "media savy." It has been the biggest boon to my career ever, and it is because of all of you. Thanks.

The reason they come—the reason "all YA'LL" come—is because it IS the very best place of its kind. And because of me, the very best of MY kind, 'cuz there is only one of me (Thank God). NOBODY knows more than me total, nobody has showed up that can out teach me, out debate me, or out entertain me.

On a good week, this place is LOTS OF FUN. On a bad week, it still has a gem or two you can laugh at, or fix your shank with, or your student's shank.

Thanks again. We keep upgrading, and we will always try to improve the place and the message.

It is what it is—and I love it, even though I curse it sometimes. Sorta like I do with Mike Finney. :D

for me that analogy does not work, if you added in that the salesman said

"this guys as a salesman, jimmy crack corn, deserves a c. this guy, captain kangaroo, a D. what they are selling does not work because they are turning around their butthole, and I am better because I get them to turn around their pee pee....."
if you knew of captian or jimmy, then you may stay to see what his reasons for the grades/criticism are

I am just making an observation of what I think why some things happen, nothing more, nothing less

The reason for existance is...........to reach your potential.

BRIAN, YOU AND YOUR STAFF ARE OUTSTANDING!

THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE!!!

Got any OTT drills?

So you're saying there is a "get what you give" kind of Karma going on. I follow you on this very clearly.

What I don't follow is why you insinuate that Brian is closed-minded. Your basis for this seems to be the fact that Brian does a number of things:

1. Grading other instructors
2. Criticising other people's methods or ideas about the golf swing
3. Boasting about how good he is as an instructor

While you may disagree with him doing any of these things, NONE of them make him closed-minded. If he did all three of these things without any kind of support or evidence to their validity, it would certainly make him closed-minded. But he hasn't, doesn't, and isn't going to any time soon.

Being open-minded is listening and considering what others have to say. Critical analysis of what others have to say is simply not drinking the Kool-Aid.

at the end of the original post I said
"maybe that is the truth of the matter, maybe not

I just put out some thoughts, did not say anything was black or white, that is the reason for the maybe's. I dont see a benefit in continuing any more then what I have already said, and maybe it was too much, then again maybe not, who knows

reason?

I like the way Brian gives his opinion on other instructors, and their methods. He is a real golf instructor who teaches for a living. Imagine that - on the internet! Guys who claim to hit it 300 yards - you get that everywhere. Tour pro swings are very revealing, they prove that there are many, many ways of hitting the ball around the course. There really are few places where you can find real debate on this sort of stuff. By that I mean discussions by people who are experienced golfers, and are pro instructors with many years experience. Just look at the quality teachers and players that are attracted to this forum. Sure, some people here say they have all the answers, and keep it to themselves, but you expect that on the internet. Then there's that protagonist guy. Lunatic, for sure.

This is like a backyard party that Brian is having, where everybody is welcome to come in and enjoy what Brian is offering. If you decide to come to the party with "bad intentions" the host, Brian, will ask you to leave. If you behave, Brian will entertain you, as will his friends and they will let the party go where it may. WHen they don't like what is happening at the party, they ask for things to change, other than that, almost anything goes. You are free to leave if you don't like the party, or free to stay and enjoy it. In my opinion, the one thing that we as guests MUST do, is appreciate and respect the guy who is throwing the party. Thanks for the party Brian.

How can Brian be closed minded? He researches everyones stuff. Then he agrees with it or disagrees with it. He is kind of like the Bruce Lee of golf instruction. He takes what is useful and rejects what is useless. He takes their "canned" swing models and tests them. Then either proves or disproves them. When I saw the twist away in Never Slice Again I was like well I wasted my money on this video. That is the dumbest thing I've seen. But nevertheless one day I was playing poorly hitting slices and I was like I'll try anything.... 4 birdies and an eagle in that round... now I had two triples also... but that was when I failed to properly to the twist away... Another thing I think Brian understands about golf is something else Bruce Lee said about throwing a punch... "It is simple but not easy" ... So thanks Brian for trying to make this simple sport easier for the rest of us... and I hope to get a lesson with you some day...
