Just wanted to get some thoughts from some of you on were you focus your eyes when you start your swing.Found out that I was looking at the top of the ball, why I don't know.I really wasn't focusing on one dimple on the top of the ball but just generally looking at the top of it.I know about aiming the hands to the aiming point as in the flipper video but thats more mind in the hands which I understand. The problem for me was taking good divots .So the other night I took a practice swing, focused on a blade of grass and took a beautiful leading edge divot. This made me think that if I focused my eyes on a dimple on the inside left quadrant I would hit the ball solid and take a nice divot in front of the ball,AND I Did.Just wanted to know where some of you focus your eyes just before the start up.

When I focus...

on the back of the ball...I hit a pull. When I focus on the inside of the ball....usually a good shot.

I don't know why I lose this thought from time to time. Today, played nine. First 3 holes was pulling everything. The only thing I changed was....quit looking at the back of the ball.

The remaining 6 holes was 5 pars, 1 bogey

Might sound strange but although i'm looking at the ball i really don't see it. So what part of the ball i look at i have no idea, the only thing i'm really seeing is my target.

No that doesn't sound strange at all ,It's a great thought.I'm just trying to get out of my bad pattern of of thin shots and not taking a nice divot, not all the time just when I'm striking it bad.

I never look at any specific part of the ball and I don't think you prolly should or need to.

Most of the time I'm not aware of what I'm looking at....I think the same goes for most people.

And I'm pretty sure I don't see the ball when I hit it either....ala Annika, Duval.

Now that I think of it tho I'm not comfy with this in my bunker game yet. Don't know where to look.

I admittedly haven't practiced much out of bunkers yet tho.......not many on home course or in any practice areas around town.....so there hasn't been much urgency to do it as of yet. Should be easy enough....esp. once I get a real good handle on my swing.

B-MAN (B-DOG).....

I know ur a good bunker player......your thoughts?

There was an article a number of years ago that said that most players (tour players included) had their eyes closed at impact. Hogan was one of the few whose eyes were open.

My feeling is that while you may see the ball (you are aware of it in your field of vision), you do not "look" at it (it is not the object of your focus).

One's object of focus will vary from player to player - target, "mind on the hands", swing key, swing feel, etc.

On a normal shot I just look in general direction of the ball, not really sure where I focus. In a bunker I look at where I want the club to enter the sand.

On my best driving days, I'm looking at an imaginary ball on the target line, a few inches in front of the actual ball.
