Brian : I have noticed that players tend to get on their toes and straighten up when really pouring it on. Tiger does this, I do it and it is really vexing me that I do not always stay on the tush line. Why do players straighten up when really going for it ? An audio answer would be great. Thanks.

short answer - lowpoint is below the ground - when you 'jump' on it, you are in effect getting to both arms straight earlier in the 'circle'. If you didn't go up on the toes, you'd hit it fat given the earlier lowpoint.

One other observation. On the weekend, Tiger's big swing was analyzed in slo-mo, and it was pointed out that he had an extra deep squat at the start of the down swing. This validates EdZ' comment about "lowpoint is below the ground" because of the deeper initial squat.

On his big hits, Tiger also take a wider stance at address to generate extra power and stay balanced. He also tees up his ball opposite his left foot, not closer to the middle of his stance.

Tiger starts the straightening out before he hits the ball, so that means he is coming out of the lowpoint which must be behind the ball.

Conclusion: Tiger has an ascending driver head path through impact.
