mens PGA have to wear slacke and short sleeve shirts, but the LPGA can wear shorts, mini skirts, etc.
I rather see the LPGA in these but I was wondering why is it like that.
Oh, I know it is a gentlemans game, but....

Because most men would look plain ridiculous in the stuff that the women are allowed to wear!!!!!!!!!! :p  :D

I say let the guys wear shorts for God's sake.

It's one thing to have traditions and etiquette but to me that is unnecessary and out of date.

BTW I am only 22 and I am a guy who will take his hat off in restaurants and such. But I don't think I agree with the pants Nazis.

Although....as a related question (and hopefully I haven't dug my feet in too soon)......I do suppose these guys prolly wear fancy-pants (teehee) with fancy materials and such for super breathability...? This would help anyhow. I have no such pants. How well do they work?

Would as many men watch the LPGA if they were all wearing slacks? Marketing - sex sells! Can you imagine a pro stepping up to the tee at Augusta with 3/4shorts halfway down their a$$, boxers hanging out, shirt-tail hanging out, hat backwards! LOL Around here pretty much anything goes at the public courses, but the clubs still require a collared shirt, tucked in.

I think it has a lot to do with the history and tradition of the sport; there's no real practical reason why the guys shouldn't be allowed to wear shorts. I think that they want to maintain a certain image, and shorts don't fit into their vision of what a professional golfer should look like. I'm kind of surprised they allowed those glorified fancy t-shirts that Tiger and Duval made so popular :)

Oh ya that's too far for sure Ben. U wanna look like a golfer not a slob. (I'm talking about the pros)

I don't get why pants are so insisted upon though.

Apparently because the PGA tours effectively 'hire' the course that they are playing at then they can make up their own dress standards for the duration.

There have been a few pro competitions played on courses here where the pro's have worn mock neck type shirts etc without a collar which if you were a regular member or visitor you wouldn't be able to set foot on the course wearing

I remember Greg Norman complaining about the shorts thing one year out here for the Heineken Classic - was about 46deg celsius and they still had to wear trousers

With the PGA it's a marketing thing, nothing to do with tradition. Reason is, most men's legs don't look good in shorts. Of course, maybe if they shaved their legs...;)

Sliding......no sh*t, what about those sliding shorts you see softball players wearing? BTW, the Chicago Whitesox expirmented with shorts in the 1970's, the players loved it and the fans hated it.
