This is not a post about why someone shanks, I've seen Brian's videos and answers to that question and they're excellent. My question is, why my miss on the range with any pattern is a shank. For example I'll be late into my practice session and all of a sudden I start shanking it. It seems to occur when I mentally get bored or distracted and "leave" where I'm at. Is this typical? Even though it doesnt usually show up the next day on the first tee, it's very frustrating and pretty scary going into the next round. Should I try to stick around and fix it or should I just leave when it starts to happen with the thought that I've just run out of gas for the day.
On a side note, when really trying to practice to get better, say trying to go from tournament scores of 68-78 to more consistently say par or better, how does one practice enough without losing mental acuity as the session goes along and getting sloppy?
